Thank you Dave!

But crikey! It survived a helluva lot longer than I thought then. If I'd guessed I would have said it had gone by mid to late 60's. But, clearly, it was there at the start of the '69 season. Wonder when it did go then?

18 players in that shot. Can't work out who the goalie is...

Cheers

That's him. A good lad, remember going to the Scala one Monday night with Malcolm Redfern and him and Keith Mottishead were there.
They were both real good lads.

That's very impressive BB! I failed with 6 of them sadly. Some good players in there.

Its amazing how much John Ryan resembles Charlie Williams ( without the tan) in the montage that follows that photo ( click on it and go 10 photos on to the right)

This is my favourite and its hung in my office for nearly 15 years.  Sorry for the poor quality but its a photo of pictures in a frame.

The top picture is after Colchester in 1998 with a small number of people milling about on the Belle Vue turf, bereft of hope.  The bottom picture is one year later, celebrating the Conference Cup win in front of the biggest crowd in years.  Its my reminder that, in football as in life, no matter how bad things seem, there is always hope.

And that one about 'Dinard Trading coming to a town near you'? I had a pic of that one somewhere. It was a good poster. I'll have to have a look see.

In RD's link, can anyone make out what's painted on the roof on ther Popside? I never knew before that we had what I presume is advertising up there like that.

Thanks RD. I've learned something today.

Oh. And why has the Mainstand got what looks like a section of entirely new roof? Was it re-roofed? Was it extended?

I have been experimenting with the Photo but can get much other than the last Letter nearest Town End seems to be an "S".

There appears to be an 8 or 9 Letter word then a Badge / Logo and a 4 Letter word ending in "S"
so " Someones" @ ALES ?     Nice if it was DARLEYS (then their War Horse Logo) if not Hewitts / Websters / Newark ? Will try more later

Thanks Wolfie. Interesting. Wish my old Dad was around still. Or Dutch Uncle's. They might well have known.

And, my humble apologies to Coleman. I really have no idea at all why I attributed your link to Roversdude. I'm going to blame studying for an interview on Monday - but there's no excuse really is there?

That wouldn't fit with Wolfie's count of the letters? But then - I can't see a damn thing on there beyond a blur!

It's the link from Coleman's Left Hook just a little bit above our correspondence at the foot of Pg 3 of this thread.

Bob

PS DW: the grass looks pretty rubbish on the link to that one above doesn't it?! And how come the Main Stand and behind has been fogged out? Wonder what was so secret in 1935.........

Memory returned slightly. The Hull Brewery ad was on main stand front. That looks to me something like Doncaster 308. Maybe I will mess with it over weekend and see what comes up.

I think (but only rhink!) I vaugely remember that Hull Brewey ad along the front of the Main Stand. Would it have been there in the mid 60's WR?

I am obviously guessing but with Camerons based in Malton and Hartlepool I would not have thought they would have much of a presence round here in '35

It may not even  be a Brewery but I was trying to think who had a presence in Donny and the ones I mentioned plus Corporation Ales Warwicks maybe Bentinks ? I don't know but I would like to !

In the 1946/47 handbook the nearest I have, it featured ads for Tadcaster ( Taddy ) Ales, and Oakwell Ales.

I wondered why the car park was so full when there were no signs of life at BV. Then I looked north a bit and realised it was taken on a race day.
