Earthquake!

Another earthquake tonight here in Rutland.  We had 2 in 24 hours last April too.

Anyone else in the midlands feel this one tonight?

We heard a "bang" (Donny) and so did a friend in South Elmsall which seems to be how a lot are describing it  on the testimonials, centered near Oakham we just thought it was a thunderclap

There was a massive flash of lightning and clap of thunder in Sheffield about that time. I'm assuming they weren't connected.

If it was thunder it was a very loud then. We heard it in Sprotbrough. I remarked that it was odd to get thunder in a snow storm.

This one started with a loud bang for a few seconds, followed by a vibration for 15-20 seconds or so.  The bang sounded and felt like a large piece of furniture falling down the stairs or indeed a short loud clap of thunder - but we could also feel it.

Looking at the BGS data, I live about 4-5 miles as the crow flies from the epicentre.  The epicentre of this one was only around 1000 metres from the two quakes in 24 hours in April 2014, which themselves were only around 300m apart.

Strongest quake we felt however was a 5.2 centered on Market Rasen in Feb 2008.
