Returning? Heard yesterday of plans for an event this summer surrounding the Vulcan and if all goes well talks taking place for something bigger in summer 2016 should Waddington show not return

Initial discussions were taking place with RAF Waddington and the Vulcan to the
Sky Trust in relation to arranging a Family Fun Day at the Airport in 2015, with
the possibility of holding an Air Show at the Airport in 2016. Early ideas were to
arrange for a fleet of 10-12 aircrafts from the 1950’s/1960’s to be stationed at the
Family Fun Day.

There are already numerous public open days in hangar(the correct spelling for those of us that know) 3,,my avatar was taken at the first one in May 2011,explain away this then

6 MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
 
Members noted that Lincolnshire County Council had appointed Councillor Johanna
Churchill as substitute Member for Councillor Pat O’Connor.
 
RESOLVED – That the Membership update be noted.
 
7 AIRPORT ACTIVITIES REPORT
 
L Daffern, Head of Airport Services provided the Committee with an update regarding
the commercial, marketing and operational issues at RHADS. In summary it was
reported that:-

The Waddington show isn't happening this year due to runway resurfacing.  But it is expected to return for 2016.

Perhaps the RAF is just looking at Finningley in case the work at Waddington overruns.

It would be unusual to operate a big airshow at a commercial airport.  However it may not be a problem if the ground displays and public are all on the other side of the runway to the airport operations.  I can't remember the set up at Finningley, to see if that would work.

There would need to be a window or 2 during the display days for the commercial flights to operate.

There's a big difference between a family fun day (Vulcan tin rattling day) and an air show!
Yes aircraft can be flown in and put on display but there cant be an "air show' as we were used to?
Still being positive its better than nowt and may lead on to more if successful.

That reads 2 events to me.  Family fun day and potential air show..

Happily I get to see all the planes I could ever want from my back garden one weekend each July. Saw the first Mig 29 ever to fly into this country (it was Hungarian and it really did stun everybody with that amazing tail slide), I was too bloody close to those two beautiful blue and silver Mig29s that collided in mid air and I once saw an Australian F111 come straight down the runway at low level trailing fire all the way as it dumped a tank full of kerosene into its exhaust.

My favourite plane is the Mig 29. Stunning machine. And second favourite is the Sukhoi Su27. Both brilliant to watch. Mind that awesomely scary helicopter gunship thing of theirs is way, way too scary to ever take lightly too.

PS If you ever look up the front page of The Observer for the day after those two Migs collided you will see a pic of one of them, with a wing on fire, just a couple of seconds before it smashed in to the ground. And right in the middle of the pic is the back of my head gawping helplessly at what was about to happen in front of me.

That was the crash where the pilots ejected safely, and walked back to the airfield casually smoking a fag...

Yep. And they were bloody lucky the pair of 'em too. They were damn low. There was a story, locally, that once they got back inside they set about each other. It's still said in these parts too that what happened was as a result of a circumstance they had never considered and that the guy in charge was court martialled as a result.
