JPT Trophy
« on March 03, 2015, 10:57:01 am by robchester »
It looks like the League One and League Two clubs have agreed to allow Premiership B teams to enter.

If they allow that it will make a mockery of the competition.

Next year's final- Chelsea B v Man United B.

Be a good way of ticking off the big grounds if Rovers get drawn away though ?

That's like saying that the FA Cup final this season will be City vs Chelsea. Extremely unlikely to happen anyway. It's a story out of nothing.

Our attendance against Notts County shows how bothered we are about the competition. So no problems with it IMO

Thin end of the wedge, I'm afraid.

Having had the proposal for B-teams to be included in the league (rightly) rejected, Scudamore tries this and the league clubs agree to it to appease the PL, then no doubt in a season or two Scudamore will resurrect the original plan.

The L1&2 clubs need telling by the fans that this idea is not wanted.

ludicrous.  One of the few realistic routes for lower league clubs to get to a Wembley final will be made harder

Yes but the B sides will have players of the calibre of Reese Brown and Milan Lalkovic in them.

Oooooh,  I'm papping myself. . Anyway,  when we're in the championship next season...... . ;)

Like Muttley says, it won't end with this.

My guess is that "B" leagues will follow, and become the back up option for the broadcasters, who like the global market potential of the brand recognition.

Once established, then it will be the outer darkness for TLOD and other town clubs, who do not fit into the development model. Lower resources, less coverage, and only a small footprint on the football map going forward.

The interesting thing is that I read only AFC Wimbledon voted against this proposal. Now I would be interested in why a club like Rovers would see this as a positive development.

Turkeys DO vote for christmas, it seems!

Rob. If the PL sides are restricted to using players in their Development Squad (under-21s) then there will be a lot of those kind of players involved. However, it would be more of a concern if they were allowed to field first teamers who are coming back from injury or out of favour.

Maybe the B sides could be restricted to under -21s who are not included in the 25-man PL squad. As always, the devil is in the detail.

Looks like a final vote has not yet been taken;
BBC Sport - Johnstone's Paint Trophy: League One & Two clubs hold key

Would it not be a good idea to consult fans before deciding if this is something to support or oppose?

The closest we have/will ever come to playing a competitive game in Europe was Dover Athletic away.I think that shot from under the bar by Mike Newell that's was unmissable, has just landed in my back garden.

id have a guess that league one and two clubs have been paid for allowing them into the competition. some form of compensation, I don't agree with it my self, this competition is to allow the lower league clubs there day in the sun.. but its inevitable things like this will creep into the game... the way the games moving forward.

Mockery, another thin edge of the wedge that 's further designed to push 3rd and 4th tier teams completely off the gogglebox.
I'm getting to detest the Premiership even more each and every passing day. :((

It's a competition, like the FA Trophy and Vase, designed to give clubs who would otherwise never win a cup a realistic chance.  That's what it was created for, if that's no longer the reason (which attendances would say its not interesting to the fans until the area finals) then it should be scrapped.

It's a joke our country don't innovate we copy ideas, other countries are envious of how competitive our league's are, this isn't the way to improve the national team.
Make it so each side in our league has to have 3-4 British players who have to start the game, and another 1-2 British players on the bench and you would see things improve.

Would you? I defy you to find a team in this league who don't fit that criteria already. The majority of every team's squad is British at this level.

Overseas players playing in League One is not remotely the problem with English football and the national team.
