Stat of the night
« on April 14, 2015, 09:55:32 pm by Dutch Uncle »
We are now guaranteed a final league record with a negative home record (more home matches lost than won) combined with a positive away record (more away matches won than lost). This is the first time this has happened in Rovers entire 88 seasons in the Football League & Conference.

Haven't we had more than 88 years in the football league or conference?

Afraid not Gaz. We had 3 seasons in the 1900's, and returned to the league in 1923-24. There was no official football league during WW2, only wartime competitions.

Has any other club ever done it? I imagine somebody will somewhere, somewhen. But it can't be very common surely?

When are we selling "Away" Season Tickets is what I want to know ?
This is a dismal stat and the one common denominator for the 'home' record is the quality of the 'home' support.
Take a bow all those that ''single out' individuals to bully on the pitch and on here afterwards. Yes you know who you are , yes the cocks who make it their sole intention to scream at and/or single out  one player or the other for the slightest mistake error from minute 1  and the same 'supposed' supporters that offer little encouragement to the individual/team /manager or owner ever.

Are you still wondering why our away records are far better than our home performances now ?

That tonight was no better than what we get served up at home with the exception of not conceading!

If you judge a team on results you are doing it wrong. Variance will win games for poor teams.

I spend more time travelling to home games than actually watching the game.
I spend as more on petrol than I do on a ticket.
I also bought my grandson's season ticket and spent over £300 on a season ticket for my son's 40th.
I personally have every reason to be disappointed this season.
Poor displays, strange formations and lack of effort at times cannot be tolerated next season. We can't afford to haemorrhage any more fans. I remember Ian Atkins coming as player manager and the first thing that he did was organise the defence and make us harder to beat.
We have been an easy touch at home all season. We might be where people thought we would be but another poor home season will be disastrous. I have renewed both mine and my grandson's ticket but I'm not prepared to sit through another 20 odd dismal games like this
season. We need a shape and pattern to give us hope that we might improve.
Rant over but that is my opinion.

Encouraging, groaning, a mixed bag. My point is that even with an 'away atmosphere' we were still pretty poor, you are trying to blame then fans for the players not performing at home, so what is the excuse when we play away?

Just seen this Bob

Actually these days with so many more away wins than there used to be this is not at all uncommon - it would have been unthinkable back up until the 1960/70s when football became more defensive.

A quick check on the last 2 seasons shows that last season Mansfield & Oxford had such an away win dominated record, and two seasons ago Charlton, Coventry, Exeter and Southend did. It is interesting that that was Coventry's last season at the Ricoh before exile to Northampton, and they had a much better 'home' record playing at Northampton the following season.

The negative atmosphere experienced at the keepmoat is never replicated away from home.

Well we'll have to disagree. I don't recall  any disharmony this year on the road.
The keepmoat is a different kettle of fish, cheering when players get subbed, moaning at every mistake, moans and groans at substitutions.
People are entitled to that this year at home but you can't say it's worse away.
It simply isn't

Thank you Brian. Odd. My 'muscle memory' would never believe that such a stat could happen more than once in a blue moon. Football really is a changing isn't it? Different world now.

Dutch

19 home goals from 22 games
33 away goals from 21 games.

I wonder if any side has ever had a record as odd as this?

Without even looking at other clubs BST, the answer has to be Yes!

We have finished the season with more away goals scored than home goals scored on no fewer than 11 occasions, and the largest difference is 17 goals in 2002-3 in our last Conference season when we scored 28 at home and 45 away - so we do have a small chance beat that. By the way our home and away records were identical that season - both W11 D6 L4

The second highest difference was only 2 years ago when we scored 26 at Home and 36 Away.

Mind you the corollary of the initial post applies - namely this is likely to be our first ever season with a negative goal difference at home and a positive one away - the nearest we have had before was in 1999-00 when our home goals scored-against was 19-21, and away was 27-27. The greatest danger to setting this record would seem to be if we get a real tonking at MK on Tuesday.

Our current difference in Home (4 more lost than won) and Away (4 more won than lost) form is 8. The largest in our history for away exceeding home is the 9 of 2 years ago (Home plus 2, away plus 11).

IMHO these days lower level teams seem to be able to organise themselves to be difficult to breakdown, and do not come across premiership level players with the class to be able to break them down often enough. I may do some research over the summer to try and quantify this over time and league level. On the other hand Mrs Dutch wants to go somewhere warmer on holiday.....

Wow. The goal difference thing is striking. I guess in previous good-away, poor-home scoring seasons, we've been gung-ho away and tight at home. This year we've been excellent away and utter shite at home.

PS

While we're on about bi-polar records, Rochdale's gets more extreme the more the season goes on.

Against sides currently in the top 15, their record is
P27 W5 D5 L17 PPG 0.74

Against sides in the bottom 9 it is
P17 W13 D2 L2 PPG 2.41

Probably largely true. I would guess that describes the first three seasons of scoring more away than at home (48-9, 49-50 and 52-3). The next was a Cusack season (85-6) and while tight at home is absolutely correct (20 scored), I am not sure I would describe away (25 scored) as full on gung-ho. ;)

94-5 (28 H, 30 A) was the next season when we were good all round early on, but then home form collapsed dramatically. Then the most meaningless season of all - the 16 away goals scored in 1997-8 was actually higher  than the 14 scored at home.

1999-00 (19 Home, 27 away) was a season where we were simply better away from home all season, and 2002-3 has already been covered - we certainly were very good away from home that year.

2008-9, our first Championship season, indeed saw tight at home with a real drought (16 scored) but the second half of the season saw promotion level away form (26 scored all season away). 2010-11 when we fell away dramatically after Christmas saw 26 scored at home and 29 away.

Then finally the 2012-13 season when we were near invincible away, and pretty poor at home (W10 D5 L8). In fact as I have said elsewhere it is the worst home record by any team ever winning any football league championship in any league in any year ever, beating Everton's previous record from 1914-15.

In many ways our results this year mirror those of our last season at this level, only we will probably be about 12 points worse off both home and away.
