So Sorry for Chesterfield
« on May 10, 2015, 02:14:33 pm by SOD »
Better footballing side but like us they had no goal threat. Could have been different if Doyle was still there. 4-0 on aggregate didn't reflect the games. Hope Swindon get through and win the final. With a couple of good signings Chesterfield should do well next season. 62% chesterfield possession.

Great last goal for Beckford. Don't think Chesterfield are that much of a footballing side, just hoof it up to Clucas.

Surely not. Do they want to go backwards about twenty paces from next season?

They have been one of the best footballing teams in the league this season.

Why would you leave a club at the top end of League One to join one in the middle of League Two?

I don't get all this saunders knocking the football was not great to watch but he built a side that got us promoted what would you rather do watch football under dickov or promotion under saunders at the end of the day its a results business and the aim is to get promotion no matter how you play

You know what? After the way they deliberately targeted Coppinger and de-railed our season, f**k 'em. Karma.

Still a massive club Pompey with huge potential. He'll quadruple his wages there.

Quadruple his wages? I thought they ran a tight ship- pardon the nautical reference - there now.

Can understand Cook leaving. Pompey are a big club and potential to go up the leagues again with their attendences. Also Chesterfield have money issues don't they?

Pompey are a supporter owned and managed club. Knowing those guys the way I do I doubt they would be profligate with their funds.

SM. That's why I find it strange that they should be able to attract a manager from a League One club who has had a pretty successful season.

Could be a wrong move for him , Portsmouth not renowned for their patience to get themselves back up and could be out of a job in six months if it all goes Pete Tong

Apparently Cook was told he was out of the Chessie job before the play-offs as the board told him that they were selling players he wanted to keep. Saunders expected to be named as new manager tomorrow

They won't be entertaining any more!, but they will be harder to beat and a good bet for promotion with him in charge.

So you think they will do better than of PC was still there? I think it's nearly impossible for them to finish in the top 6.

I agree Spud. I thought that there might be some attachment to Portsmouth but he was born in Liverpool and never played for Pompey.  It sounds funny that he should go from a team he had got promoted and then got them to the play offs to go to a team steeped in financial problems and a league lower.

Yes i think they will do better, he will organise the defence, they will be rigid and hard to beat, with a goal threat, Cook has done fantastic, none of us know who will sign who, but i expect Saunders to get the right one's in.

If he does they would stand a very good chance of promotion, under Cook they were great to watch but too open, i think he will tighten things up, the one problem with my theory is if Cook takes three or four players with him, which is rumoured.
If he doesn't lose those players and adds a few they have a very competitive side there, Jimmy Ryan one rumoured to be going to Portsmouth along with Roberts, i would love us to sign both.

Cannot say I feel sorry for Chesterfield in any respect, thought they got beat by the better side.

I think Pompey have cleared the majority of their debts now and their (relatively) big attendances at that level should give them a bit of spending power. Under those circumstances and given their support base I would think a lot of managers would fancy turning them into a championship club in 5 years. See it as a similar case to Adkins dropping down from Scunny to Southampton. A small step downwards but onto potentially a much better ladder.

I think Scunny were in the Championship and Southampton in L1 at the time he moved. He was clearly going to a bigger club and one that was already beginning to move forward. Pompey have had a pretty average season in L2. They never threatened the play-offs.
