I had personal experience of this sort of thing a few years ago. Sat on a train outside London Bridge that had been delayed because of a suicide on the track. City type next to me phoned his wife. "Going to be late home. Somebody has offed himself under the train. Yes I know. Selfish Kitson."

A lot of people say suicide is selfish, I disagree 100%. I've witnessed mental illness do crazy things to people, if your brain tells you that it's the best way out and people will be better off without you, you are going to do it. Your brain controls you, you don't control your brain.

If you can be bothered to sit through the whole thing, this guy is excellent at explaining why depression is one of the worst diseases. In my opinion, we are in the pre-history of understanding and potentially treating it. Hopefully they will laugh at us in 50 years time at how little we understood. I feel people are so flippant about because its a taboo (particularly for men) and we understand little about it.

I was actually caught in this on my way to Sunbury and can't believe the comments on social media, but then again if they are Jeremy Clarkson fans with his attitude to train suicides, no surprise really.

Some of you might remember I wrote a piece about Roy Chuter a couple of years back after he deliberately walked in front of train. Well Roy was an immensely intelligent bloke. He'd clearly thought through what he proposed to do, and he'd clearly made all the arrangements that needed to be made. So, when he walked in front of the first train of the day at sparrow chirp in the morning, although he did cause some delay, not many were on the train. Yet some of those that were decided to moan at the selfish git who'd caused the delay by posting online and by complaining in writing to the Brighton Argus.
