Maxted

I see 'Jonny Maxted' playing in goal for Rovers the other night..............Forest Green Rovers that is

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33524317

I presume that must be our former player, who from the Red Baron's excellent quiz on substitutes emerged as the player most times on the bench for Rovers without ever playing. I also seem to remember we had a reserve goalkeeper called Paul Maxted quite a while ago who also never played a first team game. Does anyone know if he was any relation - father maybe?

Played well according to reports and saved a Peter Whittingham penalty.

Dutch,

There was a Paul Maxted played in goal for Frickley in their glory days, the season that they finished runners up in the Conference. Not sure if it is the same player, and no idea if he is related to Jon Maxted.

Several ex-Rovers in the Frickley team at the time. Russ Wilcox joined after being released by Rovers, and converted to centre back. Left back Steve Daniels and wide man Gary Hatto were both with Rovers as lads.

Good side they were, at the time, but not a big enough club to step up to full time. Gates used to be around 500 or so.

The Paul Maxted who played for Frickley is the same one that was an apprentice - as they were then- at Rovers in the early 80s. He was a contemporary of Russ Wilcox, David Harle and Ian Snodin.

He was a Donny lad and I don't believe he is related to Jonny who hails from Tadcaster.

Re that Frickley team, Paul Wilson, now our academy boss, was a member of that side.
