If the lad turned down a deal at Rovers, he was badly advised. Going to A.S. is a backward step.

I don't think that'd be a bad thing and ditto it for wabarra and furman (should they not get deals elsewhere!) It would give us familiarity at least and not too much integration!
PD said he would not have them back at the KMS

I've no idea what he earns other than he drives around in a car worth over 100k.
You don't buy things like that on £500 a week

Think you're wide of the mark there Dickos. I could be wrong but I believe this was the lad's first pro contract. Possibly his second, but even if it was, it was off the back of a handful of appearances rather than any real promise shown. Realistically the max he would be on would be £1k a week. If he's driving around in a £100k car (which is extremely hard to believe, most Premiership stars don't even drive round in cars that expensive) or even a flash car, it will either be used (VERY used), dodgy or leased, and I would imagine that he will regret spunking his cash on it regardless.

ROK just about promised him a deal at Walsall and persuaded him to turn down our 6 month offer for a trial with them. Unfortunately when he's played in a couple of friendlies for them he's not impressed the manager, the lads at Walsall thought it was a done deal.

A pity he didn't have a chat to  Jonny Maxted before he turned us down. Much the same happened to him.

I exaggerate, it's probably around 40-50k but still too dear for someone earning £500 a week I'd imagine

Did he have a Merc?
Can get a top of the range one for just over £500 a month leased.

I'm not sure you would if you were only on £300 a week? He's had it over a year now

Gary Woods used to drive around in a top of the range sporty Range Rover number too!

I don't think I'd go that flash to be honest - cars don't really do it for me! I have to say I'd settle for a Toyota GT86 over any of the fancy numbers that park in the players car park on matchdays - far more affordable and look good enough for me! LOL

Wakefield has now signed with Ringtone Stanley until January;
Accrington Stanley sign defender Liam Wakefield (From Lancashire Telegraph)

I suppose he will think he has a better chance to getting games under his belt.

I can't see that he will be better off money wise than staying with Rovers, and he has the travel as well. You do wonder about the advice agents might give, when they take a cut from any deal.

Still, good luck to the lad.

Only contracted until January, so he hasn't got any more security. Given the discussions over the right back slot who is to say he wouldn't have got a decent run in that position with us?

I think he's been poorly advised.

I wonder if McCullough would ever have been given a go at right back if Wakefield had signed his contract?

I would think because of his injury last year was it Achilles then given 6months to prove himself. I believe he will get more games there than he would here so he as more chance to prove he is good enough or not. Hence another contract or not.

Good luck to him, he's more likely to get a starting shirt at Accrington Stanley than he ever was with us. More chance of getting noticed playing 1st team football in league 2 than sat on the bench or in the stands with us . Don't forget it is the player's livelihood / job, not many players throughout the leagues are lucky enough to play for their local teams for any length of time

I would say that he wouldn't have got a decent run with us. Last season, he looked like he wouldn't make a Tier 3 player as long as he had a hole in his arse. He looked two divisions above his level.

Combine that with a stupid agent and you are on the way to the Northern Premier.

To be fair the lad probably just wanted to get a run of some 1st team games under his belt , good luck to him. I spoke to his Dad around the time he broke into the 1st team squad , Arsenal & Everton were showing interest in him at the time but his Dad told him to forget about them and concentrate on trying to play regular 1st team football for Rovers.

Aye well. Now he can concentrate on breaking into the Accrington Stanley team.

Tough game.
