on the brink

Doncaster Rovers Belles are on the brink of securing a top two finish in FAWSL2 - after promotion rivals Yeovil Town and Everton played out a goalless draw on Sunday.
The stalemate means Belles need two points from their final three games to finish in an automatic promotion slot.

Belles can seal a top two spot in their next game, at London Bees on Sunday, September 27.

Their final two games are at home to Oxford United and Millwall Lionesses.

For Belles to be promoted to FAWSL1 they will have to meet the FA licensing requirements that were responsible for the club’s controversial demotion in 2013.

Do we have any clue as to what requirements the Belles don't currently meet?

Requirement 1 - Promotion candidates shall not be called "Doncaster Belles", be based in Doncaster or have the word "Belles" in their name

I believe there was some suggestion that they couldnt be sure that their fixtures werent disrupted as there are 2 other teams using the Keepmoat, the Rovers and the Dons.

Carl Lygo was very pragmatic about the demotion in an article a few weeks ago saying it was the best thing to have happened to the club as it saved it from going to the wall (or something along those lines).

This season has shown that's not the case though surely?

Yes. I reemember the main issue last time around was to do with the fact that the Belles had third claim on the stadium. That was against the rules apparently. But not for Arsenal I think it was. I'm pretty sure there was another club anyway who only had third call on their ground. It was ok for them though.

I think you may be refering to Notts County Ladies, who relocated to Nottingham from Lincoln in 2014, the call on the stadium wasn't the issue, it was the details of the move that weren't revealeD to WSL, SO THEIR QUALIFYING CRITERIA COULDN't be assesed, at the time the Belles were booted out of the top league Notts County didn't know where they would play their home games

Minimum requirements for an FA WSL licence
Financial and business management, including the appointment of a general manager and marketing officer and detailed financial plans.
Commercial sustainability and marketing, including a specific marketing plan demonstrating how specific targets around attendance will be achieved.
Facilities demonstrating that playing, training, changing, medical, spectator, broadcasting and hospitality facilities are of a certain quality.
Player/youth development, including the appointment of appropriately qualified coaches, physios, doctors, strength and conditioning experts and demonstrating strong partnerships with key agencies that can support player development, such as FA Licenced Centres of Excellence, County Football Associations and universities.

Sept 24

Pre-Match Comments ahead of London Bees v Belles on 27 Sept .

'Speaking to BBC Sport, Glen Harris said: "There will be relief more than anything that this part of the job is done. If we win 1-0 that's good enough, we're not going to go overboard in chasing goals. I don't think the setbacks from dropping those points is going to take us off that track and from making sure that we guarantee promotion this weekend. The league's still in our destiny, we're still in control."
