When is the loan deadline? Can we weigh it up towards the end of the month whilst looking for alternatives?

3 weeks .. so use Lund with either Billy Whitehouse or Matty Davies on the right in the meantime. Both BW and MD are quick and deserve this chance ,just like Lund and Middleton were given.

If last away game is anything to go by, he'll put Alcock there, with McCullough as the 3rd (right sided) defender.

The problem is, we're going to be waiting a minimum of 3 weeks for his injury to clear up and then he has to get match fit again, or he'll be out injured again! The alternative is to get someone else for that position now, who is fit and raring to go. Like I say, its a tough call for the manager.

Maybe this opens the door for Cameron Stewart?

Both Alcock and Stewart are of course out of contract with us  and DF has never publically committed to CS , though he has to Alcock .If you look at Cameron's wages at Ipswich and the £500,000  settlement he received from Leeds .. it suggests he is an expensive wage earner.

I take your points Brian, but Stewart is not in a strong position with his club telling him he has no future there, and I have not seen a string of clubs showing interest. Also I believe DF was non-committal about CS (we will have to see what transpires or something similar). It did occur to me that DF might have been referring to Mattioni's fitness/injury situation. And I would suggest CS could play wing-back or striker, thus covering both positions.

Just a thought.

Is Alcock out of contract?

Alcock is under contract to Sheff U until end of year .. I should have said his loan contract with us is ended ..

" On 10 November 2015, Alcock joined fellow League One side Doncaster Rovers on a 28-day loan"

I would certainly take Stewart based on the games I have seen him play but I have assumed there is either a wage issue or something else ( maybe the Mattioni fitness issue) to account for DF's non committal attitude  .

I love the way DF does business. Nothing revealed until pen is put to paper. Keep it up Darren.

To be fair, that is the way the club has operated for a few years now. It's not the handling of the transfers that's held us back, but what we actually do with them once we've got them! Thankfully DF seems to have that in hand.

Both aren't good enough yet, the young players have to be good enough and ready before putting them in you can't just do it because they have come through the ranks.

Plenty of options at RB tbh. Alcock and Lund. Then McCullough or even Copps. Would like to see Mattioni back though. Very good player.

Stewart has played right back for Ipswich in the championship, seem to remember him playing for Hull there as well.
