In the Cotswolds again for a client. The wife has just - quite rightly - ripped the piss out of me for doing an air punch in the middle of the street when I checked the score...

Looking at the goal difference, and IF we win both our games, then we can "afford" for both Chesterfield and Shrewsbury to draw one game each.

We can do nowt until Saturday though!

Yeah, as long as we win both games. From the last two games...

18. Chestefield are allowed to pick up 1 point
19. Shrewsbury are allowed to pick up 1 point
20. Fleetwood are allowed to pick up 2 points
21. Blackpool are allowed to pick up 5 points (mathematically can only pick up 4)

As long as 2 of these happen we'll be OK.

Chesterfield - 50
Bury - H
Bradford - A

Shrewsbury - 50
Peterborough - H
Swindon - A

Fleetwood - 48
Walsall - A
Crewe - H

Blackpool - 46
Wigan - H
Peterborough - A

Fleetwood are probably safe and Blackpool are probably down. Chestefield or Shrewsbury only picking up at most a point seems like the best chance.

On balance a defeat for Shrewsbury can't do any harm to our cause.

Probably best to see where we are on Saturday evening, and if we've won, on Monday.

On an optimistic note, the Burton game on the final day has the look of last season's Colchester v Preston to me. We know what happened next...

Or Cheltenham v Doncaster.

I keep saying that most games that are won or lost are decided by a single goal margin.

I see Walsall are now 2-1 up.

That won't make a difference - the problem isn't GD it is not getting more points over the whole season.

Quite right but still to get so close would be hard.

f**king Gillingham, eh?

They've only lost 2 home games all season against sides in the bottom half of the table. Chesterfield and Shrewsbury.

And of course, they beat us courtesy of a very questionable goal.

We need to go into the last game with 3 teams available to catch which is as it's stands currently.

Mind, then again, if Williams had buried that header against Shrewsbury instead of nosing it onto his bleeding toes and over the bar...

We've got to take it as read that we overtake Blackpool. I honestly can't see us catching 2 of the other 3.

Catching Blackpool plus 1 other is a 25% chance if we win both of our games.

On Saturday Blackpool play Wigan, we play Crewe. We should leapfrog Blackpool after then, but then again this is football and we'll probably end up relegated by the end of Saturday. Potentially we could be joint 20th by the end of that day.

We just need to win on Saturday, nothing else matters and is out of our control, if we win and the footballing gods are kind to us the pressure is on those being chased, anything can happen on the final day
