Hi all,

I've decided to take some time reliving that incredible afternoon in Brentford on this date three years ago. My latest blog post takes a long, winding trip down my personal memory lane, and looks ahead to the future both immediate and distant.

A good read. When they got the penalty my boy 3 at the time said it will be alright. I told him it wouldnt and that we had blown it (somehow managing to miss out expletives). He was right I was wrong, and the rest is folklore. Past 3 seasons have been lean for us, but would I change it for those 18 crazy seconds? Not on your nelly, its moments like that , that keep you going week in week out.

Couldn't put it better myself - I was listening to the final moments on Radio 5Live when they cut to the match.  All afternoon, there had been score updates from around the country but NOTHING from Brentford, meaning only one thing - we were drawing 0-0 and getting promoted.

I can't describe the deflated feeling when it was announced that Brentford had a penalty, and then the relief when Trotta missed it.  I almost missed the goal!  By then, Bournemouth had drawn at Tranmere and I realised that Coppinger had won it for us, yet the radio presenter still said "Doncaster are promoted but Bournemouth are champions".  I checked online to prove I was right!

I can recall the drive back from Brentford and listening to 5live on the car radio, a Brentford fan rang Robbie Savage to say that he had a £5 bet for Brentford to win and when Trotter placed the ball on the penalty spot he decided to upgrade to £50 bet but his mate convinced him to make it £500, he was bemoaning his financial loss to declare that he couldn't go home because his wife had screamed at him for his stupidity.
Robbie Savage turned into a peacemaker and offered to pay for the Brentford punter to wine and dine her with a stay over in a London hotel.

Nice gesture by Savage but surely he couldn't upgrade his bet? The market would have been suspended before the penalty was taken, I'd be astonished if he had time to log in and place a bit in that time.

I dont know the ins and and out of the bet but it felt like 5 minutes from penalty being given to penalty being taken

Robbie Savage said " I will carry out my promise if you can prove your story to me" the guy said that it will be on his account statement with William Hills on his phone.
