(a) selling records meant for export (no purchase tax) as opposed to

When my daughter worked as an air stewardess for British Midland at Heathrow she knew quite a few that worked for Virgin.
None of them seemed to like Branson.

Whereas I've known a few people who worked for him and can't speak highly enough of the man. His (paraphrased) mantra of "train your staff to be so good they can get a job anywhere, treat them so well that they don't want to"  was self-evident. Dunno if that came about in more recent times.

This was about 1995 Mike.  Apparently he used to have parties and want some steardesses there as eye candy which they hated.
He did used to tell a story though where he flew on another airline and was treated so well by the stewardess that he said " You ought to work for Virgin".
She replied that she had applied three times and not got past the interview stage.

That's really, really odd Idler. I knowe a couple of people who work for Virgin Airline, they don't know each other either, and they both can't praise the man highly enough. It's about the only time I've ever come across a boss who'se workers could almost be said to love him. I'm really struggling to fit that with your comment tbh.
