Retro Rovers Video - Rovers v Carlisle Jan 1991
« on November 15, 2016, 08:35:44 pm by RM452 »

I think most people enjoyed the vid I stuck up last week from the FA cup tie v Halifax.  I have found quite a few videos over the last few years so I am going to try to upload or feature a different old video every week on the Justapubteam site.
The one I have turned up this week is the home game from Jan 1991 v Carlisle  (I spent ages trying to find this)  I remember this game very well as it was one of the rare occassions that we featured on YTV’s ‘Goals on Sunday’ (though sadly its not the highlights from there) and, even more rare, we won 4-0.
I will try and put a diferent one up every week so keep a look out on the site if you enjoy these old vids.

The pitch looked a bit heavy/ploughed

That was the first game I took my son to. He was 3 and we saw us on the tele the next day.
Since then he's seen us play hundreds of times at over 100 different grounds

I had that on video for ages as a youngster - I recall the previous evening on Calendar, John Helm was waxing lyrical about Rufus. Was that his last game for us? (If not it must have been one of the last).

Grant Morrow came to my junior teams presentation night that season. He was a really down to earth bloke and loved us all chatting about that goal with him. Think he went on to work at DRI as a physio for a bit?

The pitch.......I recall when the groundsman had experimented by adding some kind of antifreeze on the pitch to protect it in freezing conditions and it turned it into those boggy conditions. We had played Scunny and Brendan Ormsby tried a pass back to the keeper and it lodged into the mud where a Scunny player dribbled it round the keeper and we lost.

Remember that. Was there with my parents on the pop side. A few ales before and after.

I'm in the process (slowly) of transferring some 9 hours of Rovers stuff from the late 80s to late 90s from VHS to digital. Love watching some of those snippets again.

Yeah I remember that. I think your right it may have been Rufus last game for us.

Was a good team that, but it never lived up to expectation. Rufus and Ranks got sold and then we continued our downward decent...however, have some good memories from that period.

I remember the game we played against them with Swailes, Lawrence, Jones etc in the side. We were both up near the top at the time if i'm remembering correct?.
