Rovers v Grimsby Town
« on November 22, 2016, 09:09:30 am by Bezza »
This game is the one Grimsby fans all want to see, if we give them more tickets they could bring 4`0000 supporters. we need to hype this game up so its not like an home game for them, 12-30 kick off Dec 17th lets get more fans back please.

Should be aiming to get at least 8000 home fans for this one.

Can you really see Grimsby bringing 4,000? Is this their league 2 cup final or something?

Am sure when we play the return fixture on April 1st though, we shall sell our allocation and ask for more, didn't we take over 3,000+ on that dreadful JPT Tuesday night game a few years back?

Think it was about 2800. Filled behind the goal and half of one of the side stands. Think they only allocate behind the goal now, about 2200.

I reckon they'll bring over 3000 when they come here. They have an excellent away following, one of the best in this division by far.

be realistic, as it is now, and with a few more wins in between can you really see any more than say 6000 home fans? That is a big increase anyway..

Plus it is on a big Christmas shopping day!

We've been averaging around 4500-5000 home fans, can you really see us getting 3000 more, just because Grimsby are in town? Wish we could, but just can't see it

Make it a Tenner and Quid a kid , and I'm sure we could attract 1500 more.

While I agree with you in principle, by making it that price you are losing a minimum of £7 an adult and £5 per kid on people that were hopefully coming anyway which even at 8k equates to approx £75k loss. Which is more than the approx income of £15k for the extra 1500 people that would come. Makes no financial sense. It makes more sense doing that promotion on a lesser attended game with hardly any away fans.

It's one of the stand out games of the season, and if expected Grimsby bring between 3000-4000, our usual 4000-4500 would be a little embarrassing.

It is THE stand out game this season, but that's down to the fact they are the most local team to us this season. But I still can't see it capturing the imagination of the Donny public. Sad, but true.

I don't think the kick off time helps either. Some folk may have thought about getting shopping out the way and then going down to KM if it was 3pm kick off.

Yes, it probably will generate more interest and anything approaching 8000 will be considered a success.

I was talking about a discount for home fans only .
So if we did get an 8K crowd ,  3K+ are STH's and 3k+ are Grimsby Fans so minimal income loss , nowhere near the 75K you suggest.

I think you can do it up to 3 times a season.

Just found this , and it say's the home club are allowed 4 games where they don't have to give away fans  a discount , it's called a "Local promotion"

The Football League rules (31.2.11) state: “Discounts or special promotions  made available to supporters of the Home Club must also be made available on a similar basis to visiting supporters provided always that each Club shall be permitted to designate four (4) matches per season as ‘local promotion’ Matches where this regulation shall be deemed not to apply.”

One of the biggest problems for us is that 17th is the last Saturday before Christmas and blokes are sometimes under pressure to do their once a year shopping trip.
Still, some will be fishing for a reason to get out of the shopping to watch the game.

"One of the last days to buy presents " !!!! The  service stations are open on Xmas day, bunch of flowers , a couple of bars of Fruit n Nut, a can of de-icer, a pair of fluffy dice, a scratch card, 10 Lambert and Butler. That should be enough and change out of tenner. Sorted

Every game is the biggest game of the season!  Grimsby don't appeal to me as opposition any more than anyone else.. it is relatively local, but not so much so to be a derby IMHO..

Can't argue with that but lots of blokes won't argue with the wife either.
Let's wait and see what the effect on the gate is.

Sorry but Mansfield is probably the biggest game. Grimsby will fetch 4000 for sure. They're like us when we came up from the conference it's new again after years out of the football league. Grimsby

They took 1800 to Plymouth at the weekend. Based on that I'd suggest 3000 plus for their cup final.

Thats some effort. What will we take? 400?
