From Kentonline:

Clive Cook has paid tribute to ‘level headed’ Hythe Town striker Alfie May who continues to attract the attention of Football League clubs.

The 23-year-old has 18 goals in all competitions this season and netted 29 goals last term as Hythe reached the Ryman League, Division 1 South play-offs.

The striker has already been on trial at League 1 Stevenage and Gillingham and is set to head north on Sunday to begin a stint training with League 2 promotion-chasers Doncaster Rovers, managed by Darren Ferguson.

Why didn't gills or Stevenage want to sign him after his time with them ? That's my only worry about the lad

They might well do, but he might want to see all his options before he commits to anyone.

I think this fella might be a smokescreen for us signing somebody else like Quitongo.

Could be the next Charlie Austin or could just fade back into Non-League. Worth the gamble.

I wouldn't worry about how other clubs don't want him too, there's loads of stories about how clubs don't want a player who turns out quote good, such as Barnsley rejecting Demba Ba or Sheff Weds releasing Vardy.

I wouldn't judge him this season too much either, see how he does next season, use Beckford as an example, he went on loan the first season he signed before becoming that 30 goal a season striker.

Stoke City turned down the defender Man Utd are trying to sign for 38 mill. It would have cost Stoke 170k a few years ago.

Ferguson has got a great record of plucking strikers from the non-league and turning them into very good strikers in the Football League and onto the Premier League.

Certainly a good record of plucking strikers and advancing their careers, but Dwight Gayle is the only one I think who has played in the PL (possibly Aaron McLean at Hull City).

I know not an out and out striker, BUT, he found George Boyd who was a goalscoring winger.

DF is the kind of manager that a young ambitious non league player would jump at the chance to sign for given all the previous similar signings he has made

He spent time at Gills and Stevenage as well with us after the transfer window closed therefore all three clubs could be in for him. So it will depend on money and whether he wants to travel north.

And also which team and manger he sees as the best prospect for his career!

I'm biased but I would say we're probably the best option of those three clubs - looking upwardly mobile at the moment, impressive infrastructure, playing decent footy, creating lots of chances and having a manager proven to accelerate the careers of non-league gems!

No-brainer for me! Lol!

Normally, you would think that being nearer home would be decisive, but everything I've read about this young man says 'determination'. It sounds like he wants to prove something to either someone or himself and where better to see if you're made of the right stuff than to come under the wing of a manager that gives any up and coming player the opportunity to better himself. The lad only has to take a good look at Liam Mandeville.

You know it makes sense! Sign on the dotted, lad - you won't regret it.

Are Williams and Middleton the new moaners favourites?
I dont see either of them have done much wrong,in fact I think they have done well, but both attract the critics at matches, and on the forums, now that Cedric,Curtis ,and A.T.S. are not in the team.
Williams would get in any team in this division, and most if not all teams in league 1,while Middleton, while not hitting the heights of Mandeville just yet, looks a very good prospect and covered the right midfield spot, tucking in when not in possesion last week when Coppinger was missing.

From the Hythe website:
Quote
An exceptional and hard-working striker, has previously spent time on trial at League One outfit, Crewe Alexandra and had a spell in the Conference South with Bromley. Scored 29 goals last term with 22 coming for Hythe and 7 for Erith & Belvedere. Also spent time at Chatham Town.

From some vids I've seen, he seems strong with good ball control, a good eye for goal, kinda like Copps but on the left and more forward.

At 23 he is hardly in the Alfie Beestin style of being one for the future, time is ticking for him.

Here is a video of Hythe v Lewes in which May gets a hat trick;

Difficult to know what the step up might mean to him.

Fergie said he's actually 22. Hythe are wrong.

Looks quick over 5 yards which is important for a striker. Busy player who looks like he can go past players on either side.

Ponytails got to go though! 😃

May looks a decent enough player from watching that video.
I also liked the Hythe keeper who made four or five very good saves.

The standard seems really poor that he's playing at. I have seen better players in the Donny senior league than some of them. He seems to have a low centre of gravity, quick feet, pacy, barely draws his foot back to finish the ball. That gives defenders little chance of stopping him.
Good control of the ball and a decent header of the ball. He is well worth looking at then it depends what sort of money they want for him
