If we ignore the fact...
« on January 21, 2017, 06:19:31 pm by Mac the hooped man »
That Crewe brought about a 100, there deffo seemed to be more home fans which is a good thing. The lads on the pitch can't do any more, there's another pricing special on for the next home game as well.

Build it and they will come. !!!

A town of our size should not have 3-4000 less home fans than what Rotherham and Barnsley get

They are 2 divisions higher. Next season our gates will be higher than Rotheham.

I think you need to check them.

Rotherham haven't seen the same level of decline in their attendances during their time in the Championship for a start.

The last time we were at the same level,  they averaged more.

Please give me some facts which back up your claim. And I'll wage with you now that they average more than us next season.

Oh why oh why have you got to be so negative.
If we were European champions you wouldn't be happy.

It's not being negative. It is called being realistic.

You back up your claim with facts. Rotherhams ave this season is around 9.500 I believe and this is second season in the championship.
Rovers second season in championship 2009/10 we averaged 10.900

It's their third season and average is 9800. And let's not ignore the fact they've had numerous sell outs.

Should have built a bigger ground then.

The one thing Rotherham did right was building a stadium right on the edge of the town centre. If the keepmoat was built where the old college was I think our crowds would be better!

People overstate the size of Donny in these debates. Doncaster is a metropolitan borough spread over a large geographical area comprised of many outlying villages. When you've got a population spread out as Donny does and we've basically been shit for 20/30 years of our clubs existence (as in, a complete write off) its always going to be an uphill battle to compete.

New York stadium holds 12000 so why are they not averaging more than 9.800 ?
The proof in the original question will be known in May 2018 assuming Rotherham get relegated and I think it is very probable they will.
We only need 30 more points max to get promotion.

We've still got 305,000 (over 40,000 more than Rotherham) people living in Doncaster, so only 5,000 turning up isn't great at all. Compare it to Burnley (Premier League, I know) who get 20,000 for a town of 87,000 people.

Segregation and a 2600 away end is probably why. There aren't many seats free in the home end most weeks.

Yes our gates this season are very disappointing but after 3 seasons of dross under Dickov many of our so called supporters have hopefully only temporarily deserted us.
When people get out of the habit of going it takes a while I'm afraid to get them to come back.

I'm not sure that was the case when we were in the championship and they were league 2

Who gives a flying f**k??

We won again, and won well.. we are top of the league and will hopefully stay there or in the top 3..

That's the important thing isn't it??

There's always so much debate about size of town and crowds. We are what we are. And that's that!.

In the immediate region (and exc. city clubs), it runs Barnsley, Rotherham, Donny, Scunny. Similar sized clubs include Chesterfield, Grimsby, Lincoln and Mansfield. And that's the compnay we keep.

But come next year, we'll be aligned with the Millers - and the team having the best run will have the best crowds.

Rotherhams average is lower than our first season in the championship because our away end holds more

When we were champions of Division 4 in 65/66 we were getting better gates than Rotherham.
Correct investment at the end of that season to keep momentum going and I'm sure that our history would have changed dramatically.

For me it IS 100% !

You are right I dont give a flying f*** about whether we average more than Rotherham next Season NOR whether we are in the same Division as each other either.

I just need Rovers to be a Division higher next Season even via the Play offs - and then we will play who we play Que sera sera !

What a pointless thread this is. Rotherham had a fantastic end to last season and by a minor miracle, managed to stay in the championship. It's common sense to suggest that likely boosted season ticket sales. When they get relegated it will be interesting to see how many of those season ticket holders renew.

Significantly less would be me guess. They will get similar crowds to us next year
