Chall is now a contemporary of some of these names.

The 'come on you reds' bloke in the south west corner. Anyone with working ears knows who I mean.

Remember Captain Pocket who worked at the plant from the 60s?
He always seemed to wear the same Mac and flat cap and I can’t remember seeing him without at least one hand in his pocket.

Another bloke who is a regular and I think still goes is short fella in his 50s with big thick milkbottle glasses. Think he travels lot on coaches. Looks a bit like rodent.
May have gone to college (John Leggot, scunny) with this chap. He’d be 60 now, his nickname was Rab (Rabbit, though Rod for rodent would have worked)
Nice lad and been going for years and years.

This thread got me wondering about a really nice guy called ‘Big John’ who’d travel to every away match on Paul’s Retford supporters bus, back in the late 70’s early 80’s. He’d be knocking on a bit now, but hope he’s still around.

This is the guy mentioned earlier I think who has a son that punched him at an away game once. Forget where.

Was it Huddersfield away or was that when Rigo got involved in something?

Don’t think so. From memory it was down south somewhere. Maybe Orient. Could be wrong.

Big John (if from Rawmarsh) sadly passed a good number of years ago now. He used to travel away on the coaches for many years, lovely bloke. I’m sure his surname was Handley.

Askern Rover. Those were happy days.Recall many a time being collected from working a Friday night shift down Askern pit, being driven down to Bournemouth. Five a side footy near their ground pre match, watch us win & sleep all the way home. We’d take Willy & drop him off at the ground. Saw bonehead a couple of weeks ago & our Kev is doing ok.

Not seen him for ages, I think he's involved in local youth football these days.

This is 'The Coach' as he was known when he used to stand centrally on the Pop Side. Largely because he didn't shut up throughout the game, shouting coach-like things at the players 'Give it!' 'Triangles!' 'And again, that's it!' etc. He also had a knack of shouting at all the players using their nicknames. I say nicknames, it usually involved just sticking a 'y' on the end of their name. 'Pattersony' was a stand out.

We had a spoof feature in the fanzine in around 2017 called 'Coach's Corner' written in this style, inspired after we got stuck stood behind him at Stevenage. Later that season I saw him reading a copy of the fanzine. Have always wondered if he clocked he was the inspo for that feature.

Coach's son was a headcase, but then the fact he lamped his own father at a match probably told you that.

Dave Barsby is one I see a lot at away games he use to breed dogs I bought a golden retriever of him 8 year back for £550, I now see him a little bit worst for ware at the away games think he likes a drink

I know we've often been a tough watch away from home, but never thought we'd be bad enough to turn a golden retriever to drink.

Kev Rogan was a familiar face home and away in the 80's. I was lucky enough to be on his coach to away games a few times and they were often an adventure to say the least. There was a group of younger lads from Armthorpe who travelled on his coach too, Sos, Sheldon, Belly, Enor and Whitey as I recall and then a few others from Cantley and Rossington too who's names I can't remember. One of them went missing on an away trip to Walsall one year and nobody had a clue where he'd gone to. The coach waited around for him whilst his mates went searching around some pubs, which was quite dangerous in itself back then. As I recall he'd met a young lady before the game and decided that an afternoon with her was more appealing that spending a few hours facing the wrath of the West Mids Police at the game (who were a nightmare in those days).

Had another read through & a bit of a giggle at this thread again, some of the nicknames are quality. I'm surprised Gentleman Will never got a mention.

But, also sad to see quite a few named in this thread have passed away.

Mick Largent
Dave Corby
Rob Arrowsmith
Pieman
John Barker
Ricky Hartley

At least Bars knows how to treat a golden retriever well, few beers, bit of football just to soften them up for breeding on a Saturday night!

There are so many regulars and familiar faces that I don’t know the name of. Twitter has been a good one for putting names to faces.

Jeff the punk

Would that be Jeff bull by any chance ? If was allways within Charlie's from Thorne company.

Don't think he goes rovers anymore ,but I could be wrong .

Sure he now lives down south somewhere now.

Jeff lives in Kent now, tried to tempt him out for games at Gillingham in the past but never showed up unfortunately
Bully doesn't even come up to hang round with us at Donny Punks events or gigs. Doesn't go rebellion punk fest with our punk gang either. I know he met Charlie one point last year when he was up in Donny at lep,but didn't meet rest of Donny punks for some reason unfortunately
