Has the great British breakfast had its day.
« on May 03, 2017, 09:49:51 am by not on facebook »
When was last time any of you had a full fry up breakfast or at least half a one?

I had one out in Palma nova last week and paid €8 for it.
Two eggs ,one bacon one sausage one toast one hash brown ***
and some beans ( not heinze) one coffee black .

Wtf are hash browns ,is that a yank thing as never recall the sunday breakfast having a hash brown back in 1970s.

I enjoyed the fry up and it must be first full fry up I had in 10years I guess, but it's back to mackerel on crackers with jalapeños for me now Iam back home.

My guess is that not many people back in blighty will be having a fry up due to it been out dated and it involves cooking it .give it two more generations and you be shouting out 'fried bread' peter Kay style.

As I only have to walk down the biscuit aisle of Tesco to put on half a stone, I very rarely indulge in a fry-up these days but that makes it all the more pleasurable when I do which is usually during an all-day session on the ale. Normally have three or four pints between 7 & 9am then head to a 'spoons for a fry-up. I'm not a big fan of Wetherspoons but to be fair, the breakfast is decent value, reasonable quality and can be washed down with a pint so what's not to like?

As for hash browns, I love 'em but I agree they're not a traditional English thing. Definitely imported from the States but they've added to the enjoyment for me so keep 'em I say.

Incidentally, the Flamingo in Vegas does one of the best brekkies I've ever had. Pretty much a full English with griddled eggs sunny side up and something that's like a cross between a hash brown and potato rosti. Lots of starnds of potato with a great mix of crispy & soft textures. Add black pepper and a good slug of tabasco "for the win" as I believe the youngsters say.

So it looks like that nobody will make their own fry up breakfast anymore ,as when they do have on its at a sit down type of place and made to order.

I brought some English bacon and sausages back from blighty after blackpool game ,with sole purpose of knocking up a full English for a table of noggy mates who have never had the pleasure.

Bacon and sasuages are shite out here when compared to the British choice.

The noggys were not too keen on the brown sauce ,but were over impressed with the fried bread as beans and eggs are just beans and eggs.

They enjoyed the bacon and the sausages was both hit and miss.

To be fair, sausages are a bit hit and miss anyway. I love a good Lincolnshire or Cumberland but some of the shite you get served up these days can be bloody disgusting. Sandall Park Café has made that mistake. In keeping prices really low the standard of the food has gone right down and the sausages are awful. All rusk and low grade meat.

I tend to have a bacon butty with brown sauce for breakfast most Sundays at home if that makes you feel any better about the Great British Brekkie, Oslo!

Glad you pointed out the issues with sandall  park cafe ,since I was looking at going to it next time Iam back but will give it a massive swerve now unless the cafe has a serious upgrade.

The cafe at potteric nature reserve was bang on Mike F if you are ever on yer bike out that way .

If you're looking for a good café, try Croziers at Armthorpe (in that precinct bit with Elachi Indian etc.).

Cracking fry-up in there.

Mike F, your right you cant beat a good Lincolnshire or Cumberland sausage. They are the only thing i miss out here. But the fact i don't eat Pork anymore sort of wipes that out anyway. Oh and fish and chips with Haddock.

When I was last back for the blackpool defeat I brought back with me 15 packs of thin Richmond pork sausages ,10 packs of sunblest crumpets ,various pies 8 off, 4 packs of opal fruits and 4 packs of them fruit pastel things along with a partridge in a pear tree.

You can judge the quality of anyone's full english by the sausage.

Best sausage locally can be found in Donny Corn Exchange.  Several butchers do good quality but can recommend Wilkinson's.

Hash browns have no place on a Full English brekkie, awful imported Yank crap.

Mind, you could say the same for baked beans and tomatoes!

I normally have some sort of cooked breakfast at a weekend, but rarely go for a full fry up, normally a bacon and mushroom buttie, or scrambled eggs and mushrooms.

On the subject of poor quality bangers, I've been in Carol's cafe in the market hall before when they've announced that they couldn't supply a sausage sarnie as they'd "run out of sausages"....despite there being half a dozen suppliers of quality sausage within 20 yards of their doorstep!

Can't beat an hash brown!!

Never heard of the word hash browns in the 1970s ,so fcuk knows why or how they ended up on a Sunday breakfast or is it just cafes that add them to a full English ? As me gran and me mam never fried such shite up for us.

I do a proper cooked English on a reasonably regular basis - and always when I've got guests staying. I'm lucky though: there are 3 top quality independent butchers within 4 miles of here. Huge choice and plenty of real belters. So sausages, eggs, proper bacon (not this watery shite you get these days), baked beans, fried bread and pots of tea. Can't go wrong. And note, not a hash brown in sight. Ridiculous things they are. Weirdly unsatisfying. And they fall apart most of the time too.

And the arteries get a helping hand along the way to. All grilled except the eggs and the bread - both of which get the full extra virgin. So, perfect then :)

So it's deemed that hash browns have no place on the so called great British breakfast after the 'hash brown kangaroo court ' had sat and passed judgement.

Must add that no fcuker mentioned black pudding  so maybe the great British breakfast has had its day.

'Orrible muck that black pudding stuff. My Mum loved it and used to feed it me when I wasn't old enough to say no. But never again.... Black pudding's got no place in any full English :)

Does it count if I don't cook it myself? My place of work has a great canteen that does full breakfasts every morning.
