On balance I think that's deserved. He's not only been a top goalscorer but his effectiveness and work rate all over the pitch is tireless, sometime exhausting to watch. And the entertainment from his battles with the opposition is priceless.

This might be a daft seemingly daft question, but is the total just the total number of votes they received in all the games this season?

It's the total number of points they've received through the season. Each match the player with the most votes gets 4 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, 3rd gets 1 point.
