Yes I noticed that. What you appear to have missed in your blinkered zenopohibia is that boats from all the other EU countries combined brought in less than 2% of the fish caught in these waters. Thus we have lost an important bargaining point, annoyed all the other EU countries with a unilateral declaration and probably made them more antagonistic towards us in future negotiations - for practically no gain whatsoever.Brilliant negotiations eh George.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-uk-withdraw-london-fisheries-convention-stop-foreign-countries-british-waters-a7819176.html
Sproty, the figures are there in both George's link and mine - and repeated in the interview I watched on Sky tv this morning. EU boats catch less than 2% of fish in the waters up to 12 miles off our coast - which is all this agreement covered. If you, NOF and the Grimsby fishermen think we have just taken back control of the British waters covered by Common Fishing Policy (where your Spanish fisherman go) - 200 miles of the coast, then good luck to you. If you think it has made our bargaining position in talks about those waters - then good luck to you. If you think it will stop overfishing in those waters - then more good luck to you. I love it when posters on this forum tell other posters where they have and havent worked tho!
It is easier to negotiate from a position of strength than it is from weakness. Whilst we have control of the waters we can negotiate, we cannot if we don't
A very good confirmed result of Brexit.. foreign fisherman can now not come with 12 miles of the UK coastline to poach in our fishing waters and its been hailed as a success. this is One industry thats going to see great benefits in the next few years.UK 1 - 0 Junckerhttps://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/02/uk-take-back-control-london-fisheries-convention-michael-gove
