I didn't know he was there. He was at Alfreton at the start of the season and I knew he'd left them.

Been there since September. Not sure he's played a game till today. A good club for him to get back on track.

Good pen save by the Shaw Lane keeper. He's not bad, solid hands.

This game makes me remember how we need to establish ourselves early as the lower league teams always come string in the last third of the game when at home. if they have a sniff of a result. Getting nervous for our boys later today!

Shaw Lane got a big pay day for a club their size , 67k from Tv plus gate reciepts will go a long way in their development.

They're bankrolled by one bloke who runs a plumbing firm.  He'll be more interested in the ego boost it has brought him IMO

He was one who I thought would make the grade. Not sure where it has all gone wrong for him

He went to Leeds and got no game time. I think he'd have done well if he'd stuck around and fought it out.

Anyone know how the McKays are doing?

Jack - Never played for Leeds. Went on loan to Scottish third tier and managed 1 goal in 15.
Paul - played one game for Leeds since joining.

To say these were as big prospects as Mandeville back then and compare them now.

I don't think so. Fergie made it clear he wasn't part of his plans. He's an out and out winger and Fergie doesn't use those.

He played as a wingback when he did feature here though, and he didn't look too bad, from memory.

It may be a case that we don’t install the right mentality into our young players to enable them to be successful pros. None of them ever kick on. Liam’s attitude to being dropped recently wasn’t one of a hungry professional.

I think the problem was when he took over that boozer in Thurnscoe, then got done for benefit fraud.

I think the real reason we struggle to develop players is because we're having to shop around after the big clubs with the big academies have poached all the talent.

How many players have Rotherham, Scunny, Grimsby, Mansfield, Notts County, etc, or clubs similar in size to us produced over the last 10 years who've made 100+ appearances?

They are at Championship side both playing regular in the U 23 side.  Mandeville is getting his chance here to say any where great prospects is over stating the matter.
At least we are giving Mandeville more than two years to prove himself. Giving contracts at 18 and hoping by the age of twenty they will be first team players is not development.

Each time I watched the juniors back when the McKays were here, Jack certainly looked the better prospect up front. He, and his brother, simply jumped ship far too early. The problem, imho, was the pressure from family!

Who knows what might have happened, had they stayed.
