Shocking to read he had fake eyeballs thrown at him during the game against Falkirk and two players remain suspended for taunting him in a resent game over his disability.

What a sick sick set of people

.... and it seems Livermore (WBA) was taunted about his dead Son and waded into the West Ham fans after being substituted !

FFS, imagine thinking this was a good idea when planning it before the match.

Unfortunately there are quite a number of ‘total morons’ who attend football matches. They need to be caught and banned for life.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the eye issue ever came up when he played down here. A very sorry incident. There seems a lot of bad blood between Falkirk and Dunfermline fans- the sort of thing you expect with the Old Firm but not so much elsewhere.

Earlier in the season two Falkirk players were banned for eight and four games respectively for abusing Shiels with reference to his disability.

That's the way you have to look at it: no different from mocking someone because they have a prosthetic limb or are in a wheelchair.

I know Scottish football's a pretty poor standard but what team have you been watching?

I run an under 16s team and one of my lads has a prosthetic eye.  We were at a tournament last year and a lad playing for a team from Batley said to him "you can't even look at me f***king straight".  My lad, in a very middle class tone replied "Well...that's not very polite, is it?"

The Batley lad got so wound up by his inability to wind up my lad that he hacked him down first chance he got and was red carded.

That is the perfect example of how to deal with such people. That kid has been taught right!

This Shiels story and especially the Livermore one from last night really make you wonder what goes through the heads of some people in this world. Just nasty, horrid individuals.

If Filo's comment is racist then this world has gone completely namby pamby and PC has taken over.

What next? The 'Paddy' jokes about the Irish are considered racist? The sheep shagger jokes about the Welsh are considered racist? Dare we even informally refer to French people as a particular creature that's usually found near a pond, or is that racist too?

and when someone takes the pi$$ about yorkshiremen regarding ferrets pigeons and flat caps or even does a yorkie accent same rules apply

What about the one about the Yorkshire man beating his wife? Where's the line? I mean, it's all pretty much lazy stereotyping really isn't it. If you actually knew anyone Irish you'd feel pretty uncomfortable about making 'paddy' jokes, I imagine.

Don't the Irish make jokes about Kerrymen?
If you can laugh about yourself and the joke or remark isn't vicious or in bad taste then try to see the funny side.

They do ... its their own version of Irish jokes.

Same as we have regional humour with Scottish and Yorkshiremen being tight !

What the best selling Book in Scotland ? Indoor Games when its Poppy Day

How do you make the best Omlette in Donny ? First you borrow 2 eggs a small bag of Flour and some milk ...

There always has to be a "victim" or supposed victim in all humour and the above do not hurt anyone. Its when it gets nasty - personal - and directed at/towards that victim that it may cause offence and then its crossed the line

It’s not correct that there always has to be a victim in humour. Eric Morecambe (I think) got it right. All humour falls into one of two categories:
i) logic gone awry (Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side.)

ii) a slipping of moral standards (why did the chicken cross the road? To escape from the pervert)

If you think hard about it, every single joke you’ve ever heard sits in one of those categories. The best ones hit both. (Why did the pervert cross the road? Cos he had his knob stuck in the chicken.)

There is a peculiarly nasty British take on the slipping of moral standards side which seeks to humiliate or belittle a group or individual. They are reasonable if they are aimed at someone unpleasant or powerful. If the butt of the joke is weak or unable to answer back, they are effectively just bullying. But either way, there is far more to humour than just setting someone up to have a laugh at.

A good summation of the phenomenon that, BST. I personally am not one for the types of jokes mainly in focus in this thread although I fully understand why they get made. I think the younger generations perhaps don't lean towards that style either.
