Sentencing mockery
« on January 26, 2018, 07:30:10 pm by roversdude »
The judicial system in this country never fails to amaze me
Taxi driver rapist being allowed out and now a new low - the 15 year old who stole a car and managed to kill 5 people gets 4 1/2 years
Don’t get me wrong they shouldn’t have been in the car but should get that just for taking the car

I am not a hang em and flog em type but I agree - these sentences seem to offer no deterrent to committing these offences.

I am more like my Dad than I ever thought I would be. He had "pet" sayings / views most of which I have used on here previously

I too have many many and on this subject I have always thought that there should be some kind of "Menu" sentencing - so if you are convicted of Murder (whether in Cornwall or Northumberland) your crime would be punished with a certain amount of years in each and every case

Lawyers may get your crime reduced to Manslaughter during proceedings - fine - there may have been mitigating circumstances - but once convicted of THAT crime you would be sentenced accordingly - using the Tariff that applied for that crime

Go all the way through the potential crimes and add tariffs for each. Would take a while but would eventually produce consistency - and - the reason I first thought of this - because a person who was convicted of Rape had an unusually small sentence because the Judge actually said I see you are from Derby and there are some very nice people from there so you cant be all that bad - would be gone

What do you think they do now? Spin a wheel or roll a dice?

Let's replace judges with computers. They're consistent.

Agree that the sentence should have been much longer but had to feel annoyed that the families of the dead in this crash somehow made out that their family members were somehow victims of the driver.
They were also guilty of stealing the car and squeezing six people into it.

Some folks go to court, they spin a yarn and walk out pissing themselves laughing at the guilt le idiots on the Bench, one thing that does happen is a challenge.
"Right Mr TWacker, you have sworn on oath that you need your licence else you will not be able to carry on your business as a scrap metal dealer,, the court will be adjourned till next week for you to produce your scrap metal dealers licence and income tax return, and I pity you if you can't produce them."

On a similar vein - why should speeding fines be related to wages.

They aren't, but all fines in Finland are based on income so that that they hurt everybody equally.

Sorry Glyn but the rules changed last year

I didn't know that...mind you I was probably thinking of the set fines rather than those cases that end up in court.
