Your starting 11
« on August 02, 2018, 10:56:07 pm by ZiggerZagger »
With the new season almost upon us, I wonder what your starting 11 would be. I've written a few down then looked at it and missed out one player, then another. I just don't know who to pick in nets for a starter.
What's your thoughts on who McCann will start.

i'd be happy with that. I was pondering over Whiteman for McCullough, but nevertheless I'd say that team would do a job.

Think that is pretty much spot on. Bench looks good to plus missing players like Amos, Lund, Alex K and Ben khemis shows with a non injury team we can put out a good side

I'd like to see Taylor on the bench as well Retdon, but I honestly don't think he'll be fit enough yet.

We know we’ll play 433. On that note:

Marosi
Mason
Andrew
Wright
Butler
McCullough
Whiteman
Rowe
Coppinger
Marquis
Wilks

Subs:
Lawlor
Amos
Anderson
Kane
Crawford
Blair
Beestin

The tough one is leaving Anderson out. I nearly put him in ahead of Butler with a view to the longer term. However that would be harsh on Butler who has been a mainstay and never let us down.

Kane on the bench as he’s had no time to train with the team. Crawford on the bench as he’s been injured and may need time to adapt to the higher level of football.

May could consider himself unfortunate to be left out having banged in a pre season hat trick.

When you pick a team / bench and look at it objectively, the squad certainly isn’t painfully weak. It’s just a bit short on out and out quality in some key areas and I don’t think we’ve addressed that this summer.

Taylor could be very interesting once he’s fit. I don’t expect that to be tomorrow.

Marosi
Mason Wright Butler Andrew
Whiteman
Crawford Rowe
Coppinger Marquis Wilks

It's not that easy to pick a side and that's a good thing.  Within that you've got Kane, Blair, Beestin, May, Taylor, Mccullough, Amos, Anderson, Lawlor all missing out - that's good depth.

My only real worry in the squad is the lack of a backup for Marquis, lose him and we have no real target man and that's a problem.  I'd like to see another striker come in.

I'd put Taylor on the bench he's been with us now probably 4/5 weeks and if he can't come off the bench to play the last 20/30 minutes of a game then he as seriously fitness problems

We've all got 95% from what i can see. Whiteman v Mccullough for the holding role and then for me its if Copps is a starter in the front 3 or if that isn't how GM see's him lining up (not sure where he was playing in the friendlies)

my 11 would be

              Marosi
Mason Wright Butler Andrews
   Crawford Whiteman Rowe
   Wilks  Marquis  Copps/Beestin

Not such a bad bench with Taylor, Blair, Anderson, Kiwoyma, Beestin/Copps, Kane, Amos, Lawlor all decent at this level (Kane to be seen) Just still lacking a centre forward to come in for Marquis

I can think of a few goals where Lawlor should of done better but not so many where you can say the same of Marosi so that seals it for me. Both very good keepers for a team in our league

There seems to be some very positive views about our starting eleven and also the strength of the subs bench players.
Nice that much of the depressing talk about us having a poor squad is changing.
Not much in the way of concern now.
Maybe things are not as bad as some people wanted us to believe.

I think the starting eleven and the subs bench are quite strong for the start of the season. The problem is of course if we pick up a few injuries to key players early in the season (and we haven’t had much luck with this previously) we don’t have much depth beyond that.

Nonetheless, I’m quite optimistic looking at the team we’ll start the season with and the excitement level is building as the first game approaches.

Every team will be in that position we are L1 not sure many teams have 2-3 experienced players for every position. Just the way loans are done now gives people more reason to panic I guess

like the idea of Kiwomya and wilks up front, both with great pace, but it didn't sound like Alex pulled up any trees in preseason (admittedly i didn't watch the games)

Most people acknowledge that Coppinger is our best and most influential player so why not start the game with him in the team.

What pleases me most this season is that, on paper anyway, the defence is an area of strength for us now. Although I am aware the match isn't played on paper  :)
With the back four most people have chosen above & back up with Anderson,Amos, Lund, I think we have a solid base there.
