My last meeting with the CEO
« on August 10, 2018, 08:16:35 pm by silent majority »
I had a coffee with Gavin very recently and we chatted about various subjects as we normally do. One of the things I raised was that a lot of Rovers fans would like to see some increased communications from the club, be it from the CEO himself or possibly board and senior executives carrying out their role. For certain reasons we agreed that this is something we can do, but more than that it's something we would like to do.

When we initiated the 'Meet The Owners Events' we hoped that would fill the void, or if not a void then provide something different to what had gone before and distinguish ourselves from other clubs. We still think they are a tremendous success and they will continue. From the initial beginnings of the Fan Panel we branched out into the Supporters Board when required to do so by EFL legislation, but still meet much more regularly that what is expected of us.

But we know that the conversations we have, where we share ideas and concepts, would be welcomed by quite a number of DRFC fans. The chats on Fan Engagement, In Rovers We Trust, making DRFC stand out from the crowd and get closer to our own supporters is a shared ambition.

So, we've decided that in future we'll share those ideas with all of you. We'll make a habit of noting our key points, either stuff that will happen (like the Fan Park on Saturday) or sometimes just stuff that we think we could work towards. If you guys can contribute that would be even better.

Of course I'll capture Gavin's thoughts on other things DRFC whilst I'm doing that, and hopefully let you know a bit more of what the clubs ambitions are and what running a football club can be like.

It's a new approach, lets see if it can work, I'm sure it can.

There's alot that's right, and clearly things are improving. One word I keep coming back to as regards the public perception of the board is enthusiasm. Everything is very business like, very professional but maybe, the stage is set for Andrew Watson, who's likely to have broader appeal as a younger person, to show how the board desire the things that we as average fans do. I suppose its the figure head that we're missing.

I follow Andrew on twitter now he says the odd thing about rovers and seems enthusiastic but maybe he doesn’t say as much, as he wants to remain professional and do things quietly just like his father

Also thank you Martin for bring this up see everybody ask nicely and with the benefits of doing it can bring a positive outcome.

Also hope to see more of the in rovers we trust, and looking forward to the fan park when I get there tomorrow.

Already starting to look forward to the game even though I have a 5 hour shift on my own at work

Keep up the great work Martin. Your job can seem thankless the majority of the time but I know most regulars on here appreciate the hours you put in.

Nice to hear about the good things you are doing, that you are able to sit down for a coffee and a chat with the CEO shows the huge changes and improvement between the club and its fan base that have been achieved over the years, thank you for your efforts and keeping the channels open SM.

Thanks Martin.. I’m not one who demands all kinds of information about the internal goings on at the club, but genuine updates and news are welcome nonetheless..

Decent, it's not a necessity but it just creates a good vibe and feeling of open dialogue when you hear regularly from senior people within the club

Fan park is excellent!

Still big queues collecting pre bought tickets though.

Why do we have 3 “windows” when we only ever open 1??

We arrived quite late for the game but as we walked by the fan park area looked like a really good idea. Well done on getting that going.

My only gripe was it was described as food trucks (plural) however I had a pitta wrap and it was lovely, and from little acorns etc.
A decent start, followed by a decent game. Things are looking good so far.

Thanks for all the positive responses, it's much appreciated.

I bumped into David Blunt just before kick-off yesterday and we had a few words. He was really excited and smiling broadly about the start to the season and how the new manager had impressed him. And then I thought about some of the comments I've often seen on this forum, those that claim that the board has no passion, or aren't football people, and are just businessman or whatever. There's no lacking in passion with any of the board members I've ever spoken to.

The big difference I think is that they are rock hard businessmen with a steely determination to get things right, that's a great combination, especially when they smile all the time as well!! And passion can be shown in many different ways, and in some cases it can be empty words, but I'm happy to go with what we have at our club.
