I too would have gone for TMS but I'll make the rule that 'Grand Prix' means the BBC Grand Prix theme with the Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Incomparable!

91% of the vote so far disagrees with you! Never been a fan of the Wimbledon one which is why I didn’t include it, always thought it’s too gentle and doesn’t really stir anything in me.

For the World Cup I would pick Nessun Dorma from 1990..

As for other themes, I used to like the Sportsnight one, and Pot Black..

God, I've hated that from the first time I heard the BBC use it in 1990. How on Earth does anyone find that dirge 'inspirational'?

The best one was when Final Score on the BBC used Theme From Sparta FC by The Fall. They then invited Mark E Smith to read out the results.

Have to disagree.. I thought it provided a great backdrop to the programmes as well as the concert before the tournament too..

Bloody expensive CD at £30 though.!

According to Wiki, the BBC almost used it for the 86 World Cup theme.. shame they didn’t.!

As I recall, the record company 4AD made a big splash about sending it to the BBC and pushing it as a suggested official theme.

Colourbox were years ahead of their time, dropping in samples from movies like Cabaret Voltaire, but much poppier. Just Give 'Em Whiskey was a work of genius, cutting up samples from Westworld, The Prisoner and 2001.

I don’t know much of their other work, this gem came to me from the usual source, that was John Peel..

Anyway, back on track it would have made a good theme - perhaps it could be used in the future?
