What I find interesting about the UK response to this disturbing case is that it comes on top of a series of abuses which have hardly attracted any sustained media interest.

It is almost as if the dependency of the UK economy on the arms industry (curiously called "defence" by the media, despite the clear use of the same for attack), and the money laundering financial sector, means that all consideration of the impacts of these industries is muted due to our financial interest.

Ethics are open to negotiation on the open market.
If that involves selective disregard of inconvenient news to preserve the myths of the economic narrative, so be it for those in power.

Moral compass, anyone?

We sold our soul when we shut down the pits and made ourselves completely reliant on other countries for our energy. We might get some of it back when all our cars are electric - which doesn't have to generated by oil - but when you think it could have been British coal fuelling most of our transport people may finally see how short-sighted shutting the pits was.

Yes someone wanted the end of the UK coal industry, when Hatfield Main closed a couple of years ago it was 2 weeks after the last shift that they started to fill the shafts in. Someone somewhere decided that there was never going to be a chance for someone else to take over

It's the hypocrisy of Modern politics..If it would have been Iran instead of Saudi Arabia then we would be rattling our war swords and America would be bombing Tehran...But it's not,its Saudi Arabia who the American economy is dependent of there oil,in fact the world is..And the response will reflect that..Yes there will be token meaningless action of some kind but only for appearance sake..
Take this big Saudi investment convention that Political leaders and worldwide company CEO's are boycotting..It's a farce, they are not boycotting it,they are just sending people slightly lower down the ladder who wont make the headlines, that why the attending delegate list has now vanished of the conventions website..
The reality is that the Western World only has morals when it isn't going to cost them money...
