The Grenfell tower effigy

What in god's name was running through these people's (barely an appropriate term) heads. One of the most vile things I've seen in a long time.

Surely they are identifiable from the footage.

People are sick but this has happened time and again since time immemorial. Think of any disaster large or small and the jokes are there instantly. Twin Towers Man U Munich Princess Diana Boxing Day Tsunami ? You will all have known or been told and / or sent "humour"

I had not heard (or in this case seen) a Grenfell one - and nor have I seen a Leicester Owners one yet but give it time !

I am not saying it is right - but it is a fact of life / death and was first "identified" in the early 1700's so it is not new either     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_comedy

It's a shame people aren't getting as upset of this?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/7657906/families-walk-out-union-jack-burned-bonfire-night-leeds/

They were getting upset by the sound of it.

But if you're asking me to get as affected by the unthinking burning of an old piece of cloth against the deliberate mocking of people being burnt to death then I'm afraid it's no contest.

It's a strange person who equates the burning of a flag to the burning to death of 70 people.

They're getting arrested but the people who actually caused the deaths of the innocent folk have got away with it. Weird, that.

You wouldn't have said that one hundred years ago. Just to remind you it's Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

Should the flag have been given the last post then? Otherwise. what's Remembrance Day got to do with this in the slightest? You really are a master at trying to justify yourself by saying 'But what about this completely unrelated thing though?'

In comparison with actual human lives, yes.

Massive insult to what the flag represents, and the thousands that have died defending it.

Since when has burning an effigy been a crime anyway? As dis tasteful as it is .....

Absolutely no-one on here has said burning an effigy is - or should be - a crime. So why you bring it up is a bit of a mystery.

Having said that, since when has burning a flag been a crime? Why do some people get so arsey about it, it's not as if anyone is pissing in your mouth or raping your gerbil.

Yes mate, I'll see you at the war memorial.

If you want to come to my talk tomorrow night on why people (including my great-grandad on Tickhill memorial and great uncle on Crowle memorial) laid down their lives so people like you can take the p**s over the death of 72 innocent men, women and children in Britain today, then I believe there are places still available. If not you can read about them on my website or the history of the war I wrote for our company website.

I suggest you read something other than the Sun to remind you what they fought for, how about the biography of Harry Patch for starters.

If the man burning the flag had had the intention of deliberately abusing people who had given their lives to protect our country, then I'd be with you, BS and AL.

As it is, it seems to me that you've had someone who wanted to run up a Union Flag above a bonfire, and didn't think that it would end up getting burnt. A mistake. That grown ups would ignore.

But you two get f**king arsey about it.

Whereas you don't seem to give a f**k about people deliberately taking the piss out if folk who burned to death in the most horrific circumstances imaginable.

Is that because most of them had a different skin colour to you?

Well, thanks. You've done us all a favour in showing us where your morals are.
What the actual f**k are you blithering on about?

I asked when it became a crime? The police arrested them. That was it.

Would you like to continue this conversation in person? I'll buy you a beer. Perhaps then you might speak sense, without the safety of hiding behind your keyboard.

Have to say BST you've done yourself no favours there..At no point has the colour of there skin been mentioned until you referred racism..Bang out of order...

It was a shocking act that any decent human being shakes there head at and they desrve to be punished, but if you believe the reports half the local police force has been put on it,meanwhile some old lady gets broken into and robbed and she might get a call back in three days...Priority's are all wrong...

You don't know anything about me, or the people in my family history who also served, were injured and died, so don't talk down to me like you are some great moral authority.
By the way if you want some further reading matter regarding World War One is suggest 'Goodbye to all that' by Robert Graves, personally I found it more mentally stimulating than the Sun.

Accepted. That was a stupid post and I've deleted it. Things get fraught enough these days without idiots like me stirring things up unnecessarily.

Apologies for any unfair implications and accusations.
