''The scientist and television presenter Alice Roberts is to be the next president of Humanists UK, championing campaigns against state funding of faith schools and in favour of removing bishops from the House of Lords and the legalisation of assisted dying''

It's hard to believe it's 2018?

I’ve come across Humanists before. If you think that telling a Remainer that you have Brexit sympathies opens up a torrent of abuse, just see what happens when you tell a Humanist that you have faith!

Their funerals are much more personable that religious ones though.

I got married last year and as it was in a disused church the options were to have a religious or a humanist ceremony (they couldn’t do civil). I was very sceptical as I’d thought humanist ceremonies would be preachy, but I’m really glad that’s what we went for - the official was a great bloke and basically let us write it ourselves. Don’t think you can tar everyone with the same brush!

I would have thought that a non-religious ceremony was a civil ceremony Nick?

Humanist funerals are just the same as humanist weddings, except there's one less drunk.

I'd consider it if she bought me a drink first.

We had a Humanist funeral for my dad who, whilst he was the most caring and tolerant of men was a staunch non-believer.  Far and away more thoughtful and moving than any church led funeral I have experienced.
