Paddy Ashdown RIP

Always had a lot of respect for him. He was a decent, principled politician.

I've long thought that Blair's biggest strategic mistake was not offering Ashdown PR in 1997. If he had done, and strengthened the left-wing of the LDs, there would have been a Labour-LD coalition in power in perpetuity.

Billy I agree he always came across as an honest man, which then begs the question how Clegg claims to have got into politics because of him. RIP

Back in the90's we took a bus load of junior school age kids to visit Parliament, Paddy was the only MP who took time out to come and have a chat with them, top bloke

Didn't realise what a life he'd had outside of politics. We'd be in a better place now with a few more like him in charge irrespective of the rosette colour
