And what about McGahey of Rochdale, a mere snip at £150k, and, hopefully, going to Scunny. How was he still on the pitch at half time?

God awful performance.

Dave, I am not going to knock him when he plays well, and he scored a good goal, it would be churlish to knock anyone today, they were all excellent.
First game for ages for him Alan, and playing the two centre backs behind a three in the first half is the first time I have ever seen that, and hung their both full backs out to dry, a very strange set up.
They were a lot tighter in the second half when they were more orthodox and he went central. Yes he did not have a great game, but showed the bite I like in defenders, and when someone takes the mickey that's what you get, a whack.

He should have had a red card to go with it!

Yeah that's the mark of a great defender, getting absolutely terrorised by an opponent and getting booked because the only way you can deal with him is by fouling him repeatedly. :silly:

Not arguing with that Alan, but I have seen worse not given this season, I am just enjoying being regally entertained this afternoon, we have not played that well  for a long time.

It looks like Alfie has stepped into the front 3 support role, linking both midfield and attack,
and what a great little performance, he does that job very well indeed...
Also...
Rochdale were unable to deal with an unstoppable beast called Malik,

Ah Redj, yep mate, I don't mind defenders leaving something on a player, it  is up to the referee to dish out the punishment, and is part of the game, there have been times many when I wish we had put it about when getting bullied, the Oxford game being one of them this season.
Funny how wrong it is to some on here going one way , when one of the club legends is fondly remembered by the nickname Animal. Doolan and Foster were not bad either.

They didn't get their pants pulled down by opposition very often though. Wilks made him look terrible.

Wilks dominated McGahey today and the defender was fortunate not to be sent off.

The foul on Wilks for the free kick that Crawford scored, was worthy of a yellow - as was the follow up when he kicked the ball against Mallik lying on the deck..

Eventually booked for the 3rd foul, he should have already been on a yellow.

In the second half, two of their players both threw the ball away whilst being booked for fouling Wilks - a more pedantic ref could have sent both off.

I counted 4 of theirs getting yellows for fouls on Wilks.

Red, he didn't get past him, fouled yes, but very rarely got goal side, he should have had a penalty(Wilks that is) but hey some you get some you don't, very quick to get away from the area of the foul when Wilks went down as well.
They were poor today, their defensive set up in the first half didn't help. He will leave either this month for money, or at the end of the season, and will do well, it maybe even against us again this season with a better team, quite a few in this division are after him.

Selby, Wilks went past McGahey, and everyone else, at will today.
To say he didn’t is very wrong.

Always funny how it's always everyone apart from the player you're trying to defend's fault eh...

He was absolutely woeful today and only you seem to think otherwise. But we're all wrong, aren't we.

McGahey is a centre back. I know he has played in all defensive positions but without question he looked much more comfortable in the second half at CB.
He is a decent league 1 centre back but imo would not be the required standard when we go up to the Championship.
Brian if he was at Rovers he would be warming the bench.
Butler, Wright & Anderson are better players imo.
I think GM is only looking to bringing in players who he thinks can make the step up to the next level.

Not arguing with that Paul, I will be very happy if Wright , Mason and Butler resign, with Anderson and Blaney I think that is enough. I brought McGahey up because people were on about signing someone for more money, untried at this level from Cork City, which would be a risk in my opinion, but would trust  the managers choice.
And as far as fouls go,and red or yellow cards in todays match, the one on Camp in the second half could have been a straight red, but hey ho no mention. but it was the worst foul in the game, conveniently forgotten.

Anderson? Yellow card no argument..  he clattered the Dale player but not with a high foot or studs raised.. easiest yellow card decision for the ref..

I thought of you today Selby when I was watching McGahey get absolutely rinsed again and again and again and again by Wilks, and by May too. Oh how ironic.

Your defence of him in this thread is hilarious. Wilks went past him at least half a dozen times! I really hope he signs for Scunthorpe because it will give Wilks another chance to rip him to shreds at Glanford Park next month.

At least I have got people thinking.  Steve I thought we looked far more threatening when Copps replaced  May. What do you think?
We are playing a far better team on their own Patch on Sunday, who would you pick to start?
  Lets get you thinking.

U thought we looked far more threatening after may went off???
That first half is the most threatening we’ve ever looked it could easily have been 6/7 nil at half time

At which point the score was what.?  We may have been pegged back a bit early 2nd half, but we were devastating as a team in the first half, all eleven players including May..

IDM, I was joking to get a reaction, Nobody could criticise any player that took part in that game today, everyone including Rowe and Coppinger when they came on played well, including Alfie May who took his goal brilliantly.
Do you think he was trying to head it back across the goal and it went wrong?

I'm worried you're losing the plot now.

It's okay to admit when you are wrong, you know. I'll do it right now - I said Wilks could go back a month ago cos I felt his performances had dropped off a cliff and he didn't look arsed. His form has picked back up and today he was brilliant, an individual performance that was magnificent, proving me completely wrong.

Your vendetta against May is just daft and being proven untrue. Please just admit it.
