Lewis Dunk

Elbowed Andy Carroll in the face and received no punishment.

Carroll was left with a cut above his eye.

Dunk seems to be able to get away with these "mistakes" quite well.

A poor mans Jonjo Shelvey, he should have got a red tonight for the foul on Pogba, never even got a card

As much as it pains me to say it he has turned into a very acclompished centre back.
I think that foul on Billy Sharp should now be confined to history as it was in August 2011
Let’s move on folks.  :that:

Maybe we should have this as a Sticky up top for those who still need or feel the need to visit it periodically.

Just press modify if you spot an error - change it - and press save

Look at my posts - nearly all have "Edit" at the bottom

I think the issue that still rankles with some is that Dunk went unpunished - should have been sent off and served a 3 game suspension.  He would still be unpopular but perhaps with less longevity..

The other issue was the injury to Sharp and the subsequent run of bad results costing SoD his job and ultimately our relegation.  It is impossible to say if that would have been any different with a fit Billy Sharp..

No chance we aren't going to give him the elbow - (shame he is badly out of form on the o.g. front)

the first time i saw his name i thought "Dunk the biscuit" certainly doesn't get crumbs in his pocket. He's been doing everything to a tee on the pitch the last few years

he's a folk "anti-hero" on here and you can't "format" our memories :scarf:

- BUT just remember if he had done all these things in a Rovers shirt (good & bad) over the years he would be a "hero"

Just like Doolan was a hero for the "tackle" on McPhail.

That foul was a seminal moment in my understanding of how online reality is utterly f**ked.

It was a horrific foul. A shocking challenge that could have been a career-ender.

What it opened my eyes to was the way in which people were prepared to close their eyes to blindingly obvious evidence that they didn't want to see.

I had a long and unpleasant exchange about the foul on a Brighton forum. With a few notable exceptions, their fans were insistent that Dunk's challenge was innocent and that it was Sharp's fault for moving his position into the challenge.

So I took some stills of the BBC video which clearly and unarguably showed just how bad Dunk's challenge was. How he had dived in straight through the back of Sharp's leg, never aiming within a yard of the trajectory of the ball.

That was the cue for a torrent of abuse and even more insistence that Dunk was up alongside the Virgin Mary in being without sin.

Up until that moment, my key principle was that there was this thing called Objective Reality. That there were unarguably facts which people would agree on and which underpinned rational discussion. That, if facts were placed in front of someone, they would acknowledge the existence of the facts.

After that, my key principle was that Brighton was full of Kitsons.

Yeah he went unpunished. The Football League is definitely going to go back and issue him a red card 7.5 years later though so might as well carry on banging on about it.

We were well out of our depth that season and going down anyway.

It's long since been time to move on...

Acknowledging that someone has a history of getting away with things, and it happening again, doesn't mean that you are frought with stress and angst over the initial incident.

The post was just pointing out the possibility of history repeating itself.

It is boring though. Every time he does anything there's a thread on here to point it out. Loads, and loads of players have committed bad fouls against Rovers over the years yet it's Dunk who gets fixated upon all these years later.

I was at that game, yes it was a bad tackle and it felt awful that both our strikers had been carried off, but you know what, both were back within weeks and we had far, far bigger problems that season than them missing a bit of time injured. It's sad how some Rovers fans just won't let it go.

I just hope Dunk walked in on John having his sister bent clean over firing one home at one point.

I'd take that as justice.

I'm not suffering about it, but in the same way I would piss against Thatchers statue any time I passed it, I shan't pass on having a say on Dunk, the Pink Wafer of a player  :turd:

Dunk had a pivotal impact  on that season that's why he is remembered with so much animosity and according to their manager he was such a sweet lad he would never go out to injure a player like that even if it appeared that the manager had sent him out with the instructions to do a number on Billy   so to speak,   get over it yep but it was such an impact that's why its remembered

I suppose Dunk was to blame for us not winning any of the final 18 games of the previous season as well?

no not saying that at all but it was a pivotal injury to a top goalscorer

He only missed 6 games! And you're not telling me SOD would've survived the sack if Sharp had been fit, the team was poor all round and John Ryan had made his mind up to try that stupid experiment.

I wouldn't put Dunk in the top 20 when apportioning blame to people for our relegation that season.

As context - we were 1-0 up when Sharp got stretchered off (55 minute) and they didn’t score until 83 and then 90 minute, to win 2-1.

This was first ever game in their stadium after almost 15 years homeless and we were beating them until dying embers of game.

Scoring goals and winning games breeds confidence - that’s how so called smaller clubs can survive at a higher level or win cup ties etc..

With a fit Sharp we may have won 2 or 3 of those games, and who knows what would have followed afterwards.  I think that’s why this issue is still bigger than it really should be.

Had the foul been in a later game had we had the same set of results, the long term feelings would surely be less.?

We still show intense dislike for Kitson, the ref for the Portsmouth game, managers like Cotterill etc based on performances from several years ago..

I have moved on and I couldn’t care two hoots what Dunk does now - he’s not our player - but I do recognise his foul was pivotal to how our season started back then..
