Building promising tallent for the future sends out the right message that the club is thinking long  term and if/when Championship football returns we will have a group of home grown players ready to step up and not have to be reliant on other clubs to bolster our squad with loans every season.

I hope it’s a good signing we need competition for players in our U23 development side. Last Tuesday we had Lund (whose been told he can go) and Blaney (who needs next year to improve). The U 23 team needs more games throughout the season to have better development.

Just had a look on the DROS and for a 20 year old, bless him, he looks like 14 year old lad posing for a school photo.

However, putting that aside, it is good to know that we are searching for good young players in the hope that they turn out to be first team players in the future.

Definitely worth the effort and investment - but aside from May (who was a little older) we have never quite been able to have any of these young, lower non-league signings work. Plenty show promise but only Beestin has made it vaguely near first team and he has fallen out of favour.

Never having a proper under 23 side probably played a big part in that. I like the approach and if anything we stand to lose very little be giving these hungry young players a chance in the pro game, it's not like they'll be on bing money without proving their worth.

I wonder why Leyton Orient let him go.

http://www.enfieldtownfootballclub.co.uk/teams/65370/player/rian-mclean-2055700

Previous clubs: 19 year-old Rian signed for Town in July. He had previously been on Leyton Orient’s books, and has had loan spells at St Neots, Hendon, Margate and Greenwich Borough. He suffered a medial ligament injury earlier in the year but has recovered well.

never got a sniff of being in the Orient squad.
