What do we make of this guys, a customer notice on the boards at Doncaster Interchange for the 57c bus to Doncaster (sheffield) Airport has left Doncaster out of the name and just says 57c - Sheffield Airport (circle), here is the link to the article

It pisses me off that Sheffield get everything, the Super tram is another example, Sheffield gets it and the rest of South Yorkshire pay for it

When you are waiting to travel back to it do many other airports refer to it as Doncaster/Sheffield ?

Yes they used to miss off Sheffield and just say Doncaster, but think most say Doncaster/Sheffield now, everyone refers to it as Doncaster or Donny airport anyway, there were a video the other year and everyone referred to it as Doncaster, apart from the guy interviewing said Sheffield Airport "accidently" when he started the interview, tosser he was

It’s the same most places, Barcelona-Girona airport is over 100km away from Barcelona. Venice-Treviso is about 45km from Venice.

It’s just how it is, I hope folk can get over it cos I already have... 1st world problems n’all that!

It'll have been pulled off the info when First re-registered the service. Having said that, it's probably a typo and means precisely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

It doesn't matter who's done it. It's not a magic piece of paper. Leaving 'Doncaster' off of it doesn't relocate the Airport to Sheffield. It's still in Doncaster, people still have to travel to Doncaster to use it, they still fly into Doncaster, the investment it brings still ends up in Doncaster. It means nothing.

I disagree, the name means everything, and i'm fed up of that second rate poor mans City thinking it's better than it is, there would be uproar in the town if they swapped the names around

What does it say on the front of the Airport - has that changed as well? Presumably Julie Dore's sneaking about with a massive bottle of Tippex?

Ive never seen it referred to as sheffield abroad, either says Doncaster or Doncaster/Sheffield

My lad was on the first flight from DONCASTER airport to Malta and when he saw the hotel flight information for the return journey giving the times of the 'Sheffield' flight, he crossed it out and put DONCASTER instead.

Soon it became known as Robin Hood airport, like some sort of neutral name, and then DONCASTER Sheffield. I reckon it's all been part of the transaction to change the name to Sheffield gradually.

It will never change to just Sheffield, the Doncaster public and Council would oppose it, It's on Doncaster land no where near Sheffield

If it's of no importance what the airport is called, why change it?

I can understand Airports being called after more important, famous nearby places but Doncaster is more important than Sheffield. And, if it's not more famous it bloody well should be, and the reason for it not being is because we allow other places to pinch our heritage.
