Sunderland finish 1-1 then.
Only one team, Stoke, have drawn more games than them this season.
I reckon we will get a point there next week too.

strangely i thought Accrington had got a golden point against AFC Wimbledon by not losing -they seemed to have an easy match against locals Rochdale and fcked it up real from a Rovers point of view --as rigo says  ironically we could have last seasons 4th divisions champions relegated and the second team promoted

Ok let’s look at next Saturday..

Lots of “ifs” of course, but:

If Blackpool don’t beat Peterborough they can only reach 71 points (70 if they lose).

Coventry the same vs Sunderland.

If Burton don’t beat Sunderland midweek, they can only get to 72/71, same for Fleetwood playing Barnsley on Saturday.

Realistically, barring several big scores, with our goal difference teams need to get to 73 points to beat us - assuming of course we can get 6 more..

Two wins may therefore be enough to put those 4 clubs out of the equation, and would leave Peterborough needing to win 4 out of 6 with opponents to come including Blackpool, Fleetwood, Sunderland and Portsmouth..

Then there are more complications with Fleetwood playing Blackpool over Easter for example.

Yes, we need to win games, but should we beat Plymouth then by 5pm on Saturday the competition for 6th place could be down to us and Posh.

That is a lot of conjecture but not impossible.

And to keep things simple, we help ourselves big style by winning.!

That’s one of the “ifs” come to fruition, Burton can now only get 72 points maximum..

If we can get 6 more points, then realistically it is only going to be Posh challenging us.

Let’s see what the equation is after Saturday’s fixtures..

a better and more realistic way is to extrapalate the pts won so far over a 46 game period,  posh would get 70.15 pts,   lets call it 71!,  so if they continue to average a 40 game period of gaining points, that is their tally, more than likely they will be there or ther abouts.   So 2 more wins for us, plus better goals, "should" be enough...

I do think only Posh will catch us now if anyone.

We have to lose 3 of our last 5 games to be caught by anyone below Peterborough now, and that shouldn't happen. It's time to class this as a two-horse race.

Although let’s not forget that it’s not yet 2 years since we came 3rd in a one horse race.

Averaging out over a season isn’t a real option.
Teams can put together a good or indeed a bad run over the last few games.
Look how we collapsed a couple of years back while Portsmouth were winning seven and drawing once in the final eight games.
One game at a time chaps.

Indeed. Posh are one place below us in form table - -over last 6 matches we've gained 11 points, they've gained 9. If they carry on the current form they would finish on 70 points, which would mean 4 points from our final 5 games would be enough.

Realistically they need to improve their form and rely on us doing worse, however they have Sunderland, Portsmouth and Blackpool in their final 6 - I just can't see them improving their form.

Plymouth will be a difficult game . They aren’t safe from relegation yet and we are missing our talisman 🤞

Hope that Plymouth fan who did the review of our game v them at their place is going. He posted it on here. Was one of the best I've seen in terms match day footage.
