Tommy Rowe
« on April 14, 2019, 03:52:04 pm by jackthelad »
Somebody touched upon it on another thread and I thought it was worthy of its own thread really.

I know previously the DFP said that we would only be offering new deals to 2 of the 3 senior pros out of contract. I.E, Coppinger,Butler and Rowe.  I think most, myself included felt that the player not been offered one would be Rowe.

I just feel after his recent performances over the last couple of months he has proven how good he is and he’s surely got to be offered a new deal, I know he’s had bad luck with injuries and he’s not always played consistently but when he’s in the team and has a decent run he is definitely a asset and one of our better players.

I would keep him if we can, without a shadow of a doubt. Infact I think I would offer all three senior pros a new deal. If one had to go out of the three for me it would be Butler. That’s not a dig at Butler either as I think he’s a decent steady player, I just feel we have some good CHs already and he’s the least important of the three. (Rowe,Coppinger,Butler)

What’s everybody else’s thoughts?

Agree on Rowe but Butler as one of four CBs is definitely worth another year.  May not hold automatic first choice place any more but definitely more than worthy as back-up.

Rowe is starting to find a bit of form and I would offer him a contract. Copps deserves another year with the number of assists he has got and the amount of games he has played this year. If we are still in league one I would offer Butler a deal but if we win promotion I would let him go and try bring someone else in. Butler has been good this year no doubt about it but I think he would really struggle in the Championship because theres a big jump in quality.

There will be a few clubs with an eye on Tommy Rowe, we would do well to keep him.

Don't be too shocked to see him rocking up at London Road come July.

It really depends which division we are in as far as Butler is concerned.
I just don’t think he would be good enough in the Championship. The standard of strikers in that league is at another level.
League 1 yes i would definitely keep him.
Yes i would sign Copps and Rowe. Tommy is getting back to his best, he just needed a run in the team to get his match fitness up to speed.

I’d have happily driven Rowe to a new club he seemed uninterested, whether its to put himself in the shop window or other, he has been a revelation in the last month and I’d be sorry to see him go now

The biggest thing to consider with any player coming into the side, after a long lay-off, is that said player, whoever he is, is going to need at least 2 or 3 games to get back playing as good as when they dropped out.

I don't think TR has looked 'disinterested' at all, he's just been adjusting himself to the needs of performing at the level required.

Rowe looked disinterested when he first got back into the team after his injury but to be fair to him, he now looks like the player we know he can be.
As for Andy Butler, well he has been written off almost as many times as Copps but keeps on proving people wrong.

Tommy Rowe is our scoring midfield player. He was never disinterested I watched him playing for the U23 development side were he was in control of midfield also giving instruction to the young lads around him. When he came back in to the first team he should have been played consistently then you would have seen his performance improve quickly. He’s had to prove himself again to the manager he should have done that now.
Let’s not forget and I’ll keep saying it his goals per minutes played is the best of all our midfield players this season.

I heard he was off in January (not to Peterborough). Surprised he's still here.

I heard rumours he was leaving at the back end of January too, I am glad he didn’t.

Hope we do keep hold of him but just a feeling in my gut says he will be leaving this summer regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.

Disinterested and not match fit are two completely different things.

I bumped into James Coppinger on the saturday night after the Luton game the other week in the service on A1 and asked him if he was staying. He told me he had an agreement in place to stay for next season but it wasnt getting announced till the end of the season. He also said Butler was in the same position as himself but he didnt know wether Tommy Rowe would be staying.

Hope he does stay. Come into some cracking form last couple of weeks. Great player when fit.

There may be no point in offering terms to Rowe..He may have already told the club he's leaving in the summer for all we know..He's a good player and if an agreement can be reached,great..If he wants to move on so be it...

No doubt it'll be the club's fault for not throwing enough money at him for some, regardless of whether that would feature in Rowe's decision making at all...

He is a quality player - but of Kane, Whiteman and Rowe it is Rowe that is least consistent. He will be on more than anyone else in that midfield I imagine as well.

Clearly took him some time to get fit, not at all surprising. He was very good on Saturday though.

Rowe, Marosi and Andrew are the question marks at the moment. Based on recent performances I would now be sad to lose any of them! However, we have done well this season without Rowe so it wouldn't be the end of the world, although there's no doubting he's been back to his best of late.

So losing Kane and Rowe at the end of the season will make recruitment harder.

Peterborough just announced they have signed pre contract agreements for 2 unnamed players for next season

I wouldn't be surprised one bit If he does end up at Peterborough with Ferguson next season.
I would be disappointed if Tommy was one of those to sign a pre-contract agreement though with them considering we are going toe to toe for a play-off place over the next three weeks.  All blind speculation mind.
