Question for Dutch/TRB/BRR
« on April 29, 2019, 02:34:24 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
Am I right in thinking the last time we had one player score 20 league goals and a second one score as many as 14 was 76/77, with Kitch and Bren?

Yep, 23 and 15. The previous season both scored 22. And Kitch got 21 the season before, 3 seasons in a row of 20+ League goals.

Before that:
65/66 Jeffrey 22 Sheffield 28
63/64 Booth 23 Hale 20
46/47 Jordan 42 Todd 23 Maddison 17
34/35 Turner 25 Baines 21
33/34 Dodd 24 Turner 14
27/28 T Keetley 36 Allan Hall 18
25/26 T Keetley 24 H Keetley 17

Not looked pre 1915, though saw Brown scored 3 consecutive hattricks +1 (whatever that's called?) in the last three games of 15/16 in the Midland Combination League - 5, 4 and 5 goals. Crazy war depleted sides, but nevertheless, I think that's unique for Rovers.

Ta BRR.
That puts Marquis and Wilks in some very special company as a pairing.

In very special company but also the first pairing we've had at this level or higher. All the previous ones being in Div 4 back to 63/64 and the ones previous to that in Div 3 N.

And still we have folk complaining about Marquis and Wilks.

Bizarre.

I suspect there would have been idiots saying that Clarrie Jordan should have scored 50 goals in 1947. Or that Kitch didn't score every chance that came his way.

If only the Internet had been around then, eh?

Ah, but three of them won't count as League games.

And lets not forget that although Kitch and Bren were consistently good it was in a division lower and the team never mounted a serious promotion challenge under Stan - the only real highlight from that period was the league cup run...
