Predictions for the playoffs
« on May 06, 2019, 08:31:58 am by phil old leake »
I think we have done really well to make the playoffs.
I’d have to say charlton seem to be the form team going into them
I’m quite confident we can beat them. Already took 4 points off them this season and if we play like we did against Coventry we can beat them again.
The big result for us is JM starting to score again. He could make himself a real hero/legend if he performs well

I would have feared playing Sunderland but the pressure seems to have got to them

I know I’m asking the question but it really is anyone’s.
If we do win them it will be an absolutely superb achievement from McCann and the team

Come on you mighty red and whites

I think I'm correct in saying we took one point off them this season. We beat them away in the cup when they made 10 changes.
Charlton was the last team I wanted in the play offs for some reason. I personally think Sunderland will blow it (and Leeds - I hope!) and we have a good recent record against Portsmouth so I wouldn't have minded them.

Still, it's the play offs. ANYTHING can happen

Cool your jets 😎. Pretty sure bpoolrover was just pointing that out after the OP said we had taken 4 points off them this season - that’s not negative thinking, it’s stating a fact.

I think both semi finals will be tight ties. One goal in it either way!

Could be some penalty practice going on across the play off participating clubs in training I guess .

Some really tight play off games going on .

Aston Villa v WBA

Portsmouth v Sunderland

Rovers v Charlton

Tranmere v Forest Green

Not going to be much between those sides .

What's Rovers record like in penalty shootouts ?

Deadly.  I have no evidence to back up that assertion, just an unwavering faith.

Ok if that’s the case i apologise. I read it as we have lost there already so that’s going to be a problem for us and i was saying it isn’t.

With away goals not counting, pens are a very likely scenario. I always think the away side has an advantage with there being slightly less pressure.

Interesting point. Looking at his record in Ireland, Sadlier takes a decent penalty.

But he's right, we took one point from them and knocked them out in the Cup down at their place when they played very few regular first team players. You need to keep it factual otherwise your points not valid, in any case points were not at stake in the FA Cup.

Now onto your point, yes, everything to be positive about, it's across 2 games, home and away and anything can happen, play like we did on Saturday and we are/will be more than a match for them.

If they go out onto the park not giving a sh#t whether they win lose or draw, and unshackle the pressure of expectancy, we will beat them with a smile on our faces...however...

If they go out onto the park believing they can get a result and trying so hard to play to a rigid plan and it starts to stifle the creative elements, then we may get beat....

I want to see 10 outfield players enjoying their moment of fame, and taking risks ......

We don’t know what the 1st leg score will be but i can tell you we need to be organised and disciplined when we go to the Valley
Yes attack is the best form of defence but if we don’t defend in numbers when we don’t have the ball we will almost certainly be undone.
I think a draw at home would not be a disaster to be honest. Even if we lost by 1 at home i still think we are in the tie. It’s 2 sets of 90mins + and play offs are totally different to league games.

At Chester- Patterson missed the first, Barnes was already substituted- cue disaster, but we pulled through..so by my reckoning 100% as per playoff wins. How,s that for selective stats?

By the way been for my home ticket today, talk of the away tickets being on sale tomrrow when I asked - however unconfirmed I add.

I was also told away leg tickets should be on sale to ST holders tomorrow.

Why did they not just release both sets at the same time?

Probably physically Charlton have to Print their Tickets for their home leg and get them to our Ticket Office BUT ...

.... for our Home game our TO simply print off Tickets as they are bought ?

Also our TO will have printed off the Tickets for them to sell for Sunday ... and will have sent them to The Valley where they have already sold 10k for their Home leg
