John Marquis
« on May 17, 2019, 11:16:45 pm by RoversAlias »
I am not ashamed to say that I got a bit upset seeing him crying at the end, he was utterly devastated. No one can ever doubt his commitment for the Rovers and fair play to him, he is crap at penalties but he stepped up to take one. Without his goal tonight we wouldn't have been in penalties and without his 21 goals over the season - a club record at this level remember - we wouldn't have even been in the Play Offs.

He's a Doncaster Rovers legend now and I hope he knows it.

Nah, he's given everything for this club and people still see fit to criticise him. He doesn't deserve it.

Whole club has done us proud tonight, and I wanted to single Marquis out because he's had a great season.

Nobody misses a penalty on purpose. Top player for us and doesn’t deserve any stick at all. Everybody involved gave everything. I feel absolutely knackered and I’m not one of the poor buggers who had to run around the field for 120 mins and THEN take penalties.

To be fair, as much as I love John, he had a shocker. Only because he was trying too hard. He gave the ball away too often but made amends by scoring the winning goal.. Except Marosi slipped at a very unfortunate moment.

If you've got Twitter try and give him a bit of love. Make him feel appreciated.

Trying too hard? He was marked out of the game until he scored and probably his last goal for DRFC !

When he scored I had a moment or two where I struggled to get my breath.

Great ball through I think either May or Crawford, then great cross from Wilks, great movement by Marquis.

Watch the highlights again.

Marquis picked up the ball 20 yards in our half and laid it off.

Then ran like a 100m sprinter into the box, evading markers to get on the end of the cross.

The f**king idiots in here who criticise him have not got the first idea what he does. Every single week.

We’ve never had a player that leads the line like he does, yes he’s a striker and he should score goals, and he does, but theres a hell of a lot more to his game than scoring goals, those who knock him have n’t got a clue what they are talking about

Because that's how we play!

Marquis does the job of two men up front. He leads the line AND provides a goal threat.

That allows us to play a system that doesn't require a second striker near him. So we can play 2 wide men and 2 attacking midfielders.

It puts a phenomenal burden on Marquis, and he steps up to it 8 halves out of ten.

But there are f**king idiots on here who wouldn't see it if it was beamed into their brains with a running commentary.

The team did us proud tonight and Marquis has been superb all season imo. Thank you John for all your effort this season and getting little old Donny back up to the heights of league 1 and very nearly into the championship. I for 1 am very proud of where we finished this season 👍😀❤️

No.

It's OUR forum. And we're proud of the club tonight.

If you're wanting to wind folk up after that performance, when the result is still raw, you need to look at yourself in the mirror.

I don't know what you're getting out of this. The guy has ran his b*llocks off all night for us again. He scored a crucial goal for us again. He's finished as our top scorer for the season again.

If you can't appreciate him after tonight then I doubt you ever will be able to. You must have a pretty miserable time supporting the team.

We have done this topic to the absolute death! Some love him, some dont. Its like the Messi/ Ronaldo debate. Do you like a guy whos a dream with the ball at his feet or do you like a guy whos just a machine? Me im Messi all day long. I feel if JM left and we recruited well with the money recieved a lot would eat their words on this one. Yes he runs, hes a propper team player, scores 20 goals a season etc but I would rather have a player who scores 15 and creates 10. Hes assisted 5 all season, played every minute, missed 3 pens? He is very much a big part of why we have climbed over the last 3yrs but I wont have the God for like tag some people bang home about. Hes a decent league one player if we keep him happy days if we dont im not really bothered.

That was f**kin brilliant. I really don't give a shit we lost. I'd have loved to have stuck it right up their arses but it didn't really matter. That was one of the great Doncaster Rovers performances.
