Building starts here.
« on May 18, 2019, 12:18:55 am by steve@dcfd »
GM said he wants to build on the team this season to do better next season. We’ve had a good season he’s got the team playing the right way.

Can we do it again next season.

In the starting eleven tonight

We had 4 players still to sign contracts.
Marosi can go for me. Butler looks like he’s going if rumours and tonight tweet is any thing to go by. Andrew and Rowe my man of the match tonight even though he missed the penalty.

We had loan players in Downing, Kane and Wilks who will be returning to their parent clubs.

Then we could lose Marquis.

So it could be a hell of a building job in pre season.

Potential outgoings:

Lewis (Loan Ends) No thanks
Kane (Loan Ends) No thanks
Wilks (Loan Ends) If possible
Downing (Loan Ends) Must attempt to sign.
Smith (Loan Ends) No thanks
Butler (Sounds like hes off)
Whiteman (Please god no but lets face it)
May (Not good enough)
Andrew (Think he will be replaced)
Rowe (Cant make my mind up whether the manager or myself think hes good enough. Too inconsistent. Was awesome tonight)
Marquis (Will go I believe. Think fans who rate him will change opinion on him once he leaves as he IS replaceable)
Mandeville (End of contract?)
McCullough (End of Contract)
Longbottom (Never lived upto expectation)

Big summer ahead.

Would happily carry Kane all way from Liverpool on my back if he would do another season.

Wilks more difficult due to court case pending.

He's bigger than Kane too, so that'd be an added difficulty.

McCann said he's quite down the line with some signings and emphatic that we'll be stronger. Aiming for top two. I believe that will be true.

Next stop, the supporters beach - that was too much stress!

Big decisions to come, I think marquis is a top player but if we got offered a huge amount I would let go as I think his heart is set on playing at a higher level, I think we might get Kane back as his performances in the second half of the season have been way below the 1st but he is very young and will only get better, I would let merosi go keep lawyer as number 1 and try get decent back up, as far as the defence goes we need a right back even thou Blair has filled in well, the rest is hard to call as not sure who might leave but after the season we have had in McCann and the board we have to trust

Not sure why most are convinced marquis will leave?? It’s going to take a big fee and there’s absolutely no guarantee he will score goals at a higher level. I think he will stay.

If he doesn’t, we get a good fee and reinvest.

Simple he just doesn’t fancy doing the hard work required when your on loan , his heart isn’t in it  . He also has NO chance ever playing in this Liverpool team and he knows that.

What the f**k?

Kane doesn't do hard work? His heart isn't in it?

He's been the heart of the midfield all season and he's had lumps the size of house bricks kicked out of him. First one to throw himself into a tackle. Last one to shirk out.

What in God's name do you do with your eyes at matches?

Any club with aspirations to challenge next season should grab Adam Jackson who we have just let go after his contract ended .

Very very unlucky lad to be competing for a start with Pinnock and Lindsay at centre back .

Always played very well when he stepped in for Lindsay when he had an injury but you just couldn't break the Pinnock - Lindsay partnership up they were so good .

Jackson played very well in the championship too the two previous seasons .

Still only in his mid 20's , sorry to see the lad go but I understand he needs regular first team football and to kick on with his career .

Absolute bargain going here with no fee to pay .

Think Downing will be a nailed on signing

Additionally the FA cup run and the play offs have been extra money that could go towards next season's budget. Unless which would be fair enough it cuts the losses the board throw in each year instead.

Did McCann even use all the budget last year he did say he wouldn't spend for the sake of it

Also if Marquis does go hopefully not. Sadlier I think will play a massive part next season and think he would be better off played central

I think you will find that statement will remain only in your head...lol
Kane was inspirational under adverse physical conditions, worked tirelessly and commanded the centre, and for a 19 year old as shown great maturity and ability...

Regarding the second part of your statement I tend to agree...I work with a couple of Liverpool mad heads....and they confirmed that Liverpool have a number of great prospects already cutting the mustard at championship level,
and yes Herbie is on the radar, but would need a blinding season at a higher level to make the bench behind the bench....

Kane will spend the majority of his career playing at Championship level. We may have had a chance if we'd have gone up

If general rumours are true, on balance it's looking like:

Lawlor
???? Downing/Anderson/Wright Andrew
Copps Blair Whiteman ???? Crawford Sadlier
Marquis? ????

Jones, Amos, May, Blaney and a crop of youngsters in reserve.

I'd be expecting at least a first choice right back, central defender, central midfielder and a forward. A couple of those may be loans. I'd put the bulk of the remaining budget on those four positions and be looking at Jan to strengthen depending on what transpires.

Herbie has been very good for the most part. He would be wise to get another season with us under his belt, for continued development.

For first half of his loan he was fully committed and ended up with multiple bookings and then an injury . Second half comes back bookings drop and McCann is having to deny that an injury is behind a drop in form , form that has seldom gone above average by his usual performance level . Ever since he signed his extension at Liverpool he has played within himself perhaps to avoid injury. I like Kane he is a light years away from your typical midfielder in L1 but he isn’t interested in it either and has been playing safe for months .

I think it's only fair on Wilks and Kane to be looking at getting a go at Championship level. They've pissed it at this level at times, coming back to us for another season in League 1 wouldn't really be progression and at their age they need to be progressing year on year. Sad but true. Hopefully Grant has similar gems up his wizards sleeve.

I’d be astonished if he was back here next year. His performances in the 2nd half of the season were a notable dip from the first half but even so, that early promise suggested he’s capable of playing in the Championship so I’d imagine that’s where he will play next season.

It's very rare that clubs loan players for two seasons at the same level. If they believe in them and feel they're ready to step up to continue their development, they'd either have them back in and around their first team squads or loaning again at a higher level.

In Kane's case there are players of his age or younger around the first team squad already. They may think he's not going to cut it at Premiership level so might be open to offers.

More chance Wilks might get in and around Leeds first team squad for preseason at least.

Wilks should be our number 1 target, by any means.

I think Sadlier has a lot of potential next year.

Sadlier has looked the dog's b*llocks even after being physically knackered (probably) from playing an entire season in Ireland so imagine how good he'll be with a good break and a solid preseason behind him.
