Absolutely delighted with our manager yesterday he got everything right - team selection- substitutions - the switch to a back 3 gave us the edge & brought real composure to our work - he’s young, hungry for success & stated that wheels are in motion to bring in new signings already. We are indeed fortunate to have such a positive and ambitious man at the helm & obviously we all expect the board to match his ambitions to push us towards a top 2 spot next year

I really like the fact that at every game now the loudest chant is always for him. We haven't had that since SOD. He deserves it.

Forgot Ferguson is the only manager who's ever used three at the back in the history of football and that every time it's successful in a match he and he alone should be credited with masterminding it.

I think the argument at the time was we didn't have the personnel to suit. And it clearly wasn't working when everybody says it wasn't working as we didn't win in 17 and something like 15 or 16 of them were defeats. So not really sure what your point is x

No i didn’t like it under DF because it was a disaster most of the time and the players were quite obviously not comfortable playing it.
If GM wants to use it then i am fine with that so long as it works.
I wanted GM to give Charlton something to think about, something different and tactically I thought he did that. Let’s face it we may have lost the tie but we won the match and that was the objective.

Not sure that makes much sense. Of course who would not like a formation if it worked?! If we won every game then bring it on! The point is that it patently did NOT work and was being persisted with week in, week out. If it had worked, nobody would have cared less.

To be fair to Steve, when there was a thread on the line up for last night’s game someone suggested 3 at the back and there was a response that was something like “god no, we saw enough of that and it didn’t work under Fergie”. Pretty sure that’s what he’s referring to.

I watched him amongst the squad before xtra time.  He really roused their performance.  McCann is a very, very good manager I’m glad we have him

Credit to Gav and the board for appointing the right man. Got to say, I was anything but overwhelmed at the time, believing McCall was the better option. How wrong was I. He’s just what we needed, and I truly the believe the best is yet to come. A big shout for Cliff as well - the unsung hero... but an established leader, motivator and never-say-die kind of guy. Together, they have worked tremendously hard to evolve the team into a team to be proud of.

What Grant McCann has achieved this season has been amazing and we can hope for more of the same next season.  We are lucky to have such a leader and I hope we keep him for a long time to come.

He's like a mixture of the best qualities of SOD & Penney...with none of the Dickov attributes!

I’m probably going to get shot down here but I feel like people are getting possibly a bit carried away.

Yes Grant has done a fantastic job this season and he’s far and above exceeded my expectations, one thing I would say though is if ten games into the season we only have two or three wins you can gurantee people will be calling for his head.

I really hope he continues to progress with us, but I just know how fickle football is and one good season doesn’t make him a brilliant manager.

Let’s see how things go next season, I touched in another thread about how big of a job Grant has got on with rebuilding us and losing the loan players and possibly a couple of our own etc

Having said that, things look good and I have faith he is the right man to take us forward.

We could have Pep Guardiola and someone would be wanting him out.

Your right, you can’t please everybody and that is the beauty of football.

I think Grant has had a fantastic first season with us, I am just wary of how quickly things can change.

Upto now though, we can’t knock him.

But if he must be allowed to build on what we’ve done this season. We could lose 7/8 of the first team. He must get equal or better players to replace them if all go. These won’t all be our players some will be loans. He will then have to show he can build again with his players. He’s done very good this season but some of the players brought in have not been good enough others have been some of  our best players. Now if we are to finish higher top two or three then those players have to be better to allow Grant to progress the team.

I think that one of McCann's main achievements this season has been to establish a good mix of acquisitions and loanees. A balance that his predecessor often struggled with.

Getting the blend right is what this division is all about so, irrespective of who comes and who goes this summer, I'm confident that McCann will know what he's doing.

Given that when Fergie went McCann wasn’t seen as the fans favourite. Grant McCann has represented himself and the club with dignity and professionalism. He clearly has an ambition to progress and knows how to get the best of what he has at his disposal . Fergie left wanting more funds to build , Grant has proven get if your pegs in the right holes will bring dividends and I think the board feel vindicated , as they are often spoke about as having little knowledge of the game but this is clearly a misnomer and imo we will see our team progress to challengers for a top spot next season.

The basics. Players playing in positions they can play in and within a formation that makes the most of these players - rather than trying to force a formation on to players that clearly did not fit and hoping one day it would come good, all while underplaying the strengths of the players, piss poor football and bang average performances.

GMs rep for developing young loan players must be sky high, liverpool no doubt will have no issues sending the next in their long line of talented teens surely?

Don’t forget he wasn’t appointed until the end of June too so had to turn things round pretty quick - I’m sure this year he has been planning for a while
