Now that our season is over, just for a bit of fun if you were starting in charge August and could pick any player in their peak from 03/04 onwards, who would star in your promotion push? I appreciate there is probably near on 300 players to choose from there so plenty to go at. Mine..

                        Sullivan
  O’connor  Albrighton Butler Friend
  Coppinger Stock Wellens Mcindoe
                 Marquis  Sharp

Subs:
Warrington
Matt Mills
Green
Kane
Blundell

I appreciate mills technically was a better centre half that both Butler and Albrighton but don’t imagine many striker getting much change out of that partnership.

I’m going with the Wembley midfield of ‘08 - the best midfield of my nearly 40 years of being a fan. Not many attackers would get much change out of the back line which is very strong - also a tough choice up front - Marquis just edges out Chris Brown who in my opinion was the best hold up forward I can remember

Wonder how long it will be before Whiteman gets in ahead of Stock. Surprised nobody has got Spurr in there

Players I'd love to see playing to their full potential (with rovers or elsewhere)

Sam Johnstone

James O'Connor
Tommy Spurr (just)
Jason Shackell
Matt Mills

James Coppinger
Brian Stock
Richie Wellens
Michael McIndoe

Billy Sharp
El Hadj Diouff

Subs:
Neil Sullivan
Gareth Roberts
Andy Butler
Pascal Chimbonda
Paul Green
John Oster
Tommy Rowe
John Marquis
Chris Brown

Would be a different XI if you wanted specifically - best players in the hoops as opposed to in general.

Sullivan, Roberts, Marquis all get in then and there'd be a big shout for LFW, Blundell, Foster, Albrighton, JET, Kane and Wilks

Interesting, Sharp, O’Connor and Copps feature in every selection so far, did the 3 of them ever play together? I suppose the better question is did O’connor and sharp ever play together considering Copps obviously played with both

A lot of people picking crowd favourites I feel. The question was a team for a promotion push, so presumably the best players in their prime;

               Ikeme
     Beye - Shackell - Friend
Cotterill - Wellens - Stock - Diouf
                Duffy
         Sharp - Brown

Can’t believe people are not mentioning Doolan!

He ran the game at the Copps testimonial a year or two back despite being long retired and carrying a lot of timber. Superb player.

Incidentally O'Connor is still the player that Coppinger has made the most Rovers appearances in the same team as (198 matches). He played 90 times for Rovers with Sharp.

I am surprised so many have picked Diouf. Yes he was a very talented player but his presence did not help to create a positive team spirit.
It wasn’t just him of course the whole “experiment” created cliques in the squad. Not a team man for me.
As an individual talent he was up there with the best i have ever seen in a Rovers shirt.
Not in my team as the word suggests TEAM.

Above post was not supposed to be on the one it’s with.
Apologies as it is not relevant to JOC or Copps.

I would be very confident my team at its peak would get into the Championship play offs. Very very confident. :clapping:
