I'll admit I was underwhelmed when he was appointed but how lucky are we? Absolute top bloke and destined for higher things, hopefully with Rovers. Pre-season with GM could be more exciting than a whole season with DF. Roll on August.

Sounds totally honest and open about the plans I’m looking forward so much to the next chapter. Sounds like our preferred centre half’s are Anderson and Wright which might affect Downing come here

I'm struggling how we will be stronger based on what he said after Charlton and the players who've jumped ship or about to already. I do like what GM has done this year but I do still think he comes out with some comments that he can't then back up............ We wait with baited breath to see that I'm wrong

From the interview it sounds very much like we need to be lucky next season with injuries

GM comes across has a positive guy but to achieve a stronger squad then a lot more signings, loans are required. GK gone need a better one just having Lawlor and U23 GK Jones is not stronger. RB signed one that position improved. CH last season GM said it was a risk to go with 3 so we need 2 more. Losing Butler and not getting Downing ? Will not improve the squad. LB Andrew staying or going we may need another.
Kane gone back need a replacement. With only Whiteman and Crawford and maybe losing Rowe we could need 4 players to make the 6 GM said last year he wanted. Again like the GK, Defence and Midfield the players in our U23 squad will not make the squad Stronger either physically or technically.

Forwards we have Marquis, Sadlier, Coppinger and May we need 2 more for the 6 GM needs.
So building has started it must continue if we are going to have a stronger squad.

So we wait and see do we improve like Charlton did this season or do we fall away like Shrewsbury who lost players loaners go beck and better players leave. So it’s over to GM and the club to make the squad stronger not just in words.

I hope i'm right but when he's talked about us signing 4-5 players i think that is permanent signings with the loans coming in later in the window, like last season. If it is just 4-5 players full stop we're brining in we'll not have enough players for a long hard season. That said maybe when he says 4-5 player thats the one's we're talking to now not the extent of our business.

I trust him to make some good signings players must chat to him and be convinced that he's the man to follow

Sounds a promising interview and our season only finished a week ago. There will be players on top of his targets that come available through pre season as other clubs strengthen that he may want to go for as well.
I wouldn't read it as though we need to be careful with injuries or else we are screwed. We had a few players last year that we were paying wages for when the intentions were never there for them to be with the first team.

We are very fortunate to have McCann. Every time I listen to him it reminds me of that, and every time I hear other managers it reminds me even more. He is a huge asset to this club.

If I have any particular concern right now on incomings it’s Downing. I had really hoped for positive news on that as he’s been exceptional and clearly enjoyed his time here. He’s a free agent and you’d really hope we could do a deal.

Not too concerned with the likely outgoings at the end of their contracts. It’s sad Butler has gone but, if we got Downing, then I do feel we’d be stronger. As cutting as this may sound I don’t think Rowe justifies being amongst the top earners any more. We’ve not had the quantity or the quality this last season for that. His superb display at Charlton felt like the exception rather than the rule. I trust McCann on the incomings to make us stronger from where we are now, and I’m delighted with the Halliday signing.

If we were to sell one or more of our top players then that would be a real game changer. Let’s hope it doesn’t have to come to that. We should be in a particularly strong position with Whiteman who still has two years on his contract. Marquis I feel depends on where the interest comes from. If it’s a good bid from a championship club I could understand it from his perspective and ours at this stage of his contract. But I really hope he stays.

His response to the Downing question was not a resounding no but one where he sounds hopeful but against stiff opposition. Always good to manage expectations.

Yes slipped my mind he is good cover for right back and should fit into the centre three.
