Starting XI
« on June 22, 2019, 06:19:56 pm by andyst79 »
1)Lawlor
2)Halliday
3)James
4) Anderson
5)Wright
6)Whiteman
7)Crawford
8)Blair
9)May
10)Coppinger
11) Sadlier

As I see it at present that's our best 11 , fully expect Marquis to leave so not counted him & know nothing of the Gomez lad (hopefully he has an impact)
Looking at that it's not all doom & gloom ,  a solid defence to build on with a few additions in midfield & attack we should be fine. We may have to rely on youth on the bench & definitely need a new no 9 but fancy Sadlier to have a good season , he has the potential to weigh in with 15 goals with what I've seen so far.

No goals May can't be our starting centre forward we'll be playing for 1-0 and if we concede it'll be a huge struggle. Fully expect our new manager to be busy when he starts

What about
Ben Sheaf
Glen Middleton
John Marquis
Alfie May

]Crawford isn't good enough to hold down the position for the season IMO.

Need someone else in. Midfield, possibly two if whiteman goes.

Well Ben Sheaf and Glen Middleton haven’t actually signed for us yet. It remains to be seen if they will or not.

Marquis will probably be on his way sadly.

Alfie May isn’t good enough in my opinion and I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that, he works hard and he gives 100% but he’s not got enough quality to be starting every week in my opinion.

First McCann leaves, now they're only letting us play with 9 men from next season?

We are F****d if Alfie May starts can’t fault his effort but won’t get you more than 5-10 goals a season and that’s a fact

You can't leave Marquis out and then not include his replacement. It's 100% unlikely that he would leave and not be replaced, and he hasn't left yet.

I have been Alfie May's biggest critic as a striker, my idea of a striker is someone who knows how he scores goals in the area, and repeats the movements to give him his best chance of scoring, something Afie does not do. Marquis does, he repeats the same runs in the area in most games, and gets chances to score because of it.
But is he really a striker? Alfie that is, is he better suited to the roll he had in the Charlton game, more as an attacking wide player, his link up run with Marquis and the pass wide to Wilks was a superb run and piece of football, he has added more to his game outside the penalty area while here than as a striker.
He certainly has the energy to play other rolls.

Sorry if I've not made myself clear but all I was trying to point out is that as it stands at this moment in time (not including Marquis) this is our best starting IX with the players we currently have at the club. I'd be very disappointed if this was our line up for the 1st game of the season, & was just trying to point out that with a few good acquisitions that go straight into the team in place of a few others we will be fine.

Andy, a starting 1X is a starting 9 mate.

swop out may for a proper no.9, tom eaves for example, and that's a pretty solid starting line up....

That as a first choice 11 scares me to be honest.

Don’t forget when counting senior pro’s that we still have Kiwomya contracted to the club, I think.

Easy to forget, though.

He still has another year on his contract. McCann transfer listed him but presume he will get clean slate with new guy. Likewise Will Longbottom.

Decent enough squad to hold its own mid table I guess....but not a relegation team at all...add in the fact that most of these guys played a relatively new style last season and will be more than familiar this season....all bodes ok .....for now

Now add in a couple or 3 good loans and a couple of acquisitions and that team could be stronger than last year.....

I’ll be surprised if Middleton signs now.  I suppose it will depend on our new manager.  If gerrard doesn’t fancy the new one I’m assuming he will be loaned out elsewhere “Hull”.
Hopefully he will still sign but McCann leaving might have thrown a spanner in especially if McCann really wanted him

Hopefully McCann shows some courtesy and doesn’t poach or players nor our targets. Probably expect Kane to go to Hull however.

I just dont see that team being strong enough to mount a promotion challenge. Theres some key players from this season missing from that line up and i dont see many goals coming from that forward line either.
