Is there any point in us having a youth system?

If it was developing players there would be. We could earn millions from it.

The Board should consider indoor facilities ..the management might prefer the cash for short term goals but the long term future is player development from our own Academy.

The Academy should also give the younger, smaller players a chance rather than going for results with the big kids.

Our youth setup is absolutely rubbish and a complete waste of money.

The million plus just pocketed by the board could have put us into the necessary category which would cost a million

To be fair if they pocket a million they'd still give us 1.5m this year. Not sure we can be too critical

Show me the hard evidence that they have pocketed the money, seeing as they put in over 2million every year. They have done this now for about 14 years.

I'm quite sure that is not the case however, even if true, I certainly would not begrudge them for doing so !!  We as a club are spoilt with an excellent board who have pumped countless millions in over the years...why should they be criticised if they needed to claw a fraction of the percentage back?

Because we've been told the money will be given to the manager to strengthen the squad.

And it will. See my other post about how transfers work. There won't be a million quid plus just knocking about in the club. Not a chance.

That may be, but surely if all transfers are structured that way we don’t need it to be there right now anyway - we could just structure any deal in a similar way and once the Marquis money comes in it just goes out again. Not saying that’s what we will or should do but not having the money in up front shouldn’t prevent us from striking deals.

Lets not change the record here. Several newspapers reported the initial fee was in advance of 1 million, potentially taken up to just under 2 million with add ons.

However they receive that 1.2million (cash, stamps, co-op vouchers), it can absolutely be budgeted for right now. Rovers are not just sat there looking at the bank balance thinking 'we've only got a tenner left in the kitty lads'. That's not how it works either.

If we really wanted to give us a chance of developing a player or players from our Academy set up we must get to a level 2 academy which will cost money

To be fair we've had people on here write kids off before they've even f**king played a game so it'd no doubt be decried as the cheap option if we do ever start trying to properly bring them through,

.........also, if we were trying to sign a player ourselves, surely our payment to the selling club would also be paid in instalments.

Maybe so, but even still the initial payment won't be anywhere near £1m.

That is disgraceful. Not only have you got the sum wrong but an unfounded accusation to accompany it.

The board have been considering that for a while, it may happen yet, it all depends on the right circumstances, i.e. location, facility, cost etc.

We have to have the scouting right too. You still seem people on here occasionally say they're always seeing other clubs scouts at games but never ours.

That is not what we should be looking for, it should be someone with a bit of experience

Funnily enough I am up in Stranraer at the moment and they played Rangers U23’s last night in the cup, McPake was one of the standout players for me, he started off on the left side of a front 3, took his goal well, moved into the centre towards the end of the game, he made plenty of decent runs and looked very lively throughout
