1200 behind Rotherham and we've had 2 big away crowds. Only Sunderland and Bolton left who will fetch loads. Reckon it will finish in the 7s. Nobody to blame. Probably stuck now on ideas how to get the 4000 ex fans back

We were getting 10000 + when we were in the championship
Also having to contend with Leeds being better than usual and all the disloyal Donny whites

Bolton took 2900 to Rotherham and they have also had another very large away following.
Our Tues night match was at home Rotherham’s was away.  Smaller gates on Tues in most matches.
It will even itself out later in the season and we could end up with an ave near to 9000 by the end of the season if we are in top 6 consistently.

Some of those weren't regular fans. They were those who jumped on the novelty of both the Keepmoat and the promotion to the Championship. Some still come for the big games but football is not necessarily their favoured past time.

I also think the Dickov period and the relegation league 2 didn't help and despite promotion back, the recent instability with managers hasn't helped draw people back. I know one or two that had tasted the more exciting football under McCann and were considering getting back into it, but we all know what happened to blow the wind out of those sails.

The figures are decent at the moment. I don't think price is a barrier but, we're not going to regain those 4000 fans even with a promotion to the Championship. We will regain a few and newbies from the younger generation.

The only way we'll ever get that level of attendance regularly is by being in the Championship. Just a plain fact. It's hard to attract casuals or non-fans especially when usually the attraction is L1 sides like Rochdale and Wycombe.

Don't forget the away end was filled with a lot more fans in the Championship years - average of an extra 1k at least?
And:
2013-14 9041

Not to be complacent, but all in all, our attendances are increasing. It's always going to be gradual.

Anyone grumbling about attendances should have tried being at Belle Vue with only 1200 there. That WAS dire...

Its good that people are moaning  about this and not the lack of a number 9.

Rotherham have also played Lincoln at home which was a big away following.

Not that comparing ourselves to Rotherham is any use. Rotherham fans support Rotherham and are hardly going to start watching us.

The club seem to be doing a good job getting kids interested but it would be great if someone could work out the missing ingredient in harnessing the town's fairly large population. Doing that and improving the atmosphere are the age-old quandaries though aren't they.

TBF, the person being touted for the No 9 slot (VA) has attended at least one game - so he did his bit for that attendance stat...

Also Padge if you work it out Rotherham are only getting a tad over 7,000 home fans ave.
I would think there is not a lot in it between us and them for home support.
Think our ave at end of the season will be up on their’s imo.

For those old enough to remember, let me put a bit of context in here.

After 6 League games this season we have had an official total of 52167.

In 10 of our last 47 seasons this is more that attended the entire season, including a sequence of 7 out of 11 seasons from 1987-88 to 1997-98 (and one of the other 4 had only 52183).

The last 20 years has seen a terrific growth in our fan base from around 2K to 7K

Yes our Attendances have grown and become more stable in recent times compared to the 20 years prior to coming back into the football league.

Is it just me that’s really excited about the next couple of years. We’ve got a stable board that seem committed to the club , note to say about the manager  :woohoo: . Yes we don’t get the support the club deserves, but that’s growing steadily .
