2nd referendum on EU membership
« on October 01, 2019, 08:27:34 pm by Ldr »
Given there seems to be a general feeling that a 2nd referendum would provide a solution i theorise if it happened that whatever result it provided would not be accepted. Interested to see the feelings on here. Not to discuss the forms of leave, just an overall vote.

I'll be honest, I haven't got a scooby what you're asking.

1) Is the first part of your options about how we voted in 2016?

2) In the second part, when you say "WOULD NOT accept any form of leave vote" do you mean a)"Would not accept any specific leave option at all" or b)"Would not accept ANY form of Leave option no matter what it was?"

Take me. I voted Remain. I would fully accept a Norway style Leave option. But I would never willingly accept a No Deal leave option. So, if a) was the correct interpretation of the question in point 2, then as far as I can see, none of your 4 options in the poll apply to me. If b) is the correct interpretation then the final one of your 4 options apply to me. But if I tick that, I can we'll see the usual suspects on here screaming "There you go. A Remain voter who would not accept ANY type of Leave."

It’s A BST, maybe I’m not as articulate as some. Basically if I get you right then if you would accept some form of leave vote. Trying to get the feeling of whether there is a hardcore that won’t accept an opposite to what they voted.

No criticism Ldr. It just shows how difficult it is to get a question right.

As it is then, I don't think I can vote for any of those options. I'd need "Voted Remain. Would accept certain forms of Leave but not all forms.

Oh hang on. I've misread the whole question.

You're asking what we would accept as the outcome of a second Referendum?

In that case, if it was specifically defined on the ballot paper and a specific version of Leave won, I'd accept that, whatever it was.

In that case, my answer should be the third option, not the new fifth one.

But if the second referendum was just Remain Vs Leave, with the specific form of Leave left unclear, it would be a pointless referendum and again, none of the options would apply for me.

My apologies for misreading it.

I think how the poll is looking is how most Remainers think, even MPs. Obviously we'd prefer to stay but would accept leaving with a deal. No deal though is suicidal.

That's silly BFYP.

The argument for a second Referendum is not about trying to overturn a result. It's the patently obvious fact that the 2016 referendum was badly flawed.

A 2nd referendum with a clear and precise choice is all that is required. No need for any more after that. Just like there wouldn't have been the need for a second one if the first hadn't had such a badly thought out non-concept as "Leave" on the ballot paper.
