Alden Bryce Barlow, 55, from Doncaster

A man who sent a threatening letter to the MP Anna Soubry telling her that she would be murdered like Jo Cox has been jailed.

Alden Bryce Barlow, 55, from Doncaster, sent the Nottinghamshire MP a message reading “COX WAS FIRST YOU ARE NEXT”. The letter arrived at Soubry’s constituency office in Broxtowe on 14 October and was opened by a member of staff, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

At Sheffield crown court, Barlow admitted sending a letter conveying a threatening message and was sentenced to 12 months in jail. He was also given a 10-year restraining order covering Soubry, who is standing as a candidate for the Independent Group for Change in the general election.

It's alright, Boris has declared it humbug so there's nothing to worry about.

He said it in Parliament.

When a female MP gave an emotional and impassioned speech about her fear in the current climate, and her and her staff having to regularly deal with insults and threats. Johnson said he'd never heard so much humbug in his life.

He's been bafflingly silent on this case. I can't think why. You'd like to think the PM would be setting a lead on trying to reduce tension and bring the country back together and this conviction seems a golden opportunity for him to emphasise the importance of tolerance and respect.

But...nothing.

He's probably busy.

Not quite Billy.

Two MP's, Paula Sturridge (friend of Jo Cox) and Tracey Brabin (took over seat from Jo Cox) said that the words, phrases and language Johnson himself was using were fueling a rise in tension and the insults and threats that came with it. It as this that Johnson said humbug too.

He has at other times also denied that the language he uses can be seen in any was as encouraging right-wing radicalism.

Yesterday he was endorsed by Tommy Robinson.

Aye and labour have been endorsed by nic Griffin they also have had some.awkward moments with candidates, so none of them can claim a moral high ground can they?

Nick Griffin?

Remind me. Was he politically active BEFORE the days of Gladstone and Disraelli or after?

Johnson did respond to MPs expressing their distress as “humbug”. He dismissed their fears by deflecting to his only line to “get Brexit done”.

At no time did he empathise with his elected colleagues who had been threatened.

His silence on the matter was deafening..  this could have been responded to in a totally apolitical non-partisan manner, but he said nowt.

Says everything about his character.

There was a great snippet in Private Eye 1507 two or three weeks ago. Page 10.

"Those looking for a good hour's entertainment on a cold St Andrews Day could do much worse than visit Upper School at 3.30 pm to witness the final of the House Debating Competition.  Two pairs of Collegers have battled their way through many arduous rounds to reach this final. Proposing the motion that 'This House Would Emigrate' will be the always elegant and witty Hugo Dixon, ably aided and abetted by Boris Johnson, whose speeches are always full of sound and fury, even if signifying  nothing".

Eton College Chronicle, November 1981.

Plus ca change....

Cheers

Just searched for Alden Barlow.  Found his FB profile, where he is pictured wearing his Everton shirt.
